About This Role

The Organizing Manager for Nursing Home Team supervises the SEIU 775 nursing home organizing team in WA, manages nursing home contract campaigns, and strategic initiatives for nursing home members statewide.

This is a full-time, over-time exempt position that requires travel, evening and weekend work as needed. This position is a hybrid of remote / office and field work, and reports to the Organizing Director.

Essential Functions :

  • Responsible for the day-to-day supervision, training and support of Nursing Home Team Organizers
  • Works with Organizers to build a strong and visible union in each nursing home facility including site visits, monthly worksite meetings, leadership recruitment, job actions, political organizing and member activation
  • Facilitates statewide communication plan for nursing home workers
  • Helps staff identify contract enforcement issues and coordinates with other SEIU 775 staff to provide support for grievances, advocate training, etc...
  • Helps staff identify worker concerns for issue campaigns, bargaining and / or LMC’s.
  • Participates as needed in both Labor Management Committee meetings and Bargaining sessions.
  • Coordinates leadership development and political action opportunities for nursing home member leaders
  • Builds campaign plans with Organizers and supports them to achieve goals (membership, cope, leadership recruitment, worksite meeting turn-out, lobby days, bargaining, grievances, annual Leadership Conference, etc.)
  • Joins staff in the field every month for facility visits, events or worksite meetings to provide in-person oversight and mentoring with Organizers in the field
  • Takes responsibility for and pride in the outcomes and success of members, organizing team and program
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills & Abilities :

  • Strong organizing background.
  • Developed mentoring and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to lead an organizing team.
  • Strong relationship building and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with Excel, Word, desktop publishing and organizing database work.
  • Ability to guide strategy and day-to-day campaign work.
  • Ability to travel domestically with overnight stays.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
  • Language skills a plus.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • At least 2 years of leadership experience on organizing campaigns (union, political, or community organizing)
  • Previous experience leading teams with diverse individuals and wide range of skill sets.
  • Proven commitment to progressive social change and building anti-racist movement
  • Excited to lead a team focused on building power for low wage workers in long term care.
  • Strong leadership skills, including ability to manage multiple campaigns, programs, and projects.
  • Interest in leadership development.
  • Willingness to work long and irregular hours when needed to campaign needs.
  • A valid driver’s license, car, and automobile insurance.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work :

This is a full-time, exempt position. As a Full-Time, Exempt employee you are not eligible for overtime. Hours of operation will depend on what you and your supervisor agree to.

Must have flexibility in schedule during extended business hours allowing stakeholders to access services. From time to time, the Organizing Manager may be expected to participate in Union activities outside of normal business hours, including weekends and after-hours.

This position is 75% remote, 25% at HQ Seattle. The position is normally required to be in the office at least two (2) days weekly, or when needed (based on business needs).

Department Director has the ability to depict work schedules.

Compensation :

This position is full-time, exempt. This position is not included in the Bargaining Unit. Pay ranges from $100,929 $123,306 per year.
