At Houston Methodist the Lead MRITechnologist position performs specialized functions as a regularpart of their normal job responsibilities.

In addition toperforming at a Technologist II level this position serves as theliaison and primary point of contact between management staff andphysicians for routine matters.

The Lead Technologist positionanswers questions and resolves issues for the MRI Technologist I& II job roles as well as other members of the care team toensure the delivery of exceptional patient care and adherence topractice standards.

  • This position ensures optimal patient safetyquality outcomes and customer service. Duties for this position mayinclude the following tasks : organize work schedules and delegatework assignments;
  • review and edit time cards for accuracy; conductquality assurance audits; develop and implement quality improvementactivities;
  • train mentor and develop staff; and provide feedback onstaff performance or development needs. The Lead Technologistposition may direct or regularly participate in special projects;

collect analyze and report on data or metrics; and hold otherresponsibilities of a similar nature andlevel.

PEOPLEESSENTIALFUNCTIONS

Promotes apositive work environment and leads the team to be a dynamic andfocused work unit that actively helps one other to achieve optimaldepartment results.

Collaborates with all members of the patientcare team by actively communicating and reporting pertinent patientcare information and data in a comprehensive manner.

Role modelseffective communication skills to team members assisting in theirdevelopment of suchskills.

Orients guides andmentors team members consisting of MRI Technologist I and IIstudents and support staff to help build confidence and competencyin skills knowledge and abilities.

Effectively implements protocolsand objectives with team members to result in optimization of staffperformance teamwork patient safety and customerservice.

Serves as theprimary resource for staff in all areas of service that thedepartment performs. Interfacing with department staff to providefeedback to management on team members performance and conduct.

Collaborates and supports management for improvement of employeesatisfaction implementation of protocols and objectives with teammembers to result in optimization of staff performance teamworkpatient safety and customerservice.

Leads andinitiates problem resolution within the work unit. Facilitatesteamwork by coordinating department needs and responding positivelyto requests for assistance.

Rolemodels skills through peertopeeraccountability to contribute towards improving departmentefficiencies and customersatisfaction.

SERVICEESSENTIALFUNCTIONS

  • Performsdiagnostic MRI procedures to include common and special MRI exams.MRI exams use magnetism radio waves and a computer to produceimages of body structures and gives insight on the chemical makeupof tissues.
  • Proactivelyassesses identifies and responds to the needs of the patient foradjustment or intervention to optimize patient care image qualityand patient experience.

This includes : positioning physiologyprocedure preparation and technical factors. Modifies technicalfactors to achieve desired imaging results and recognizescomplications and limitations associated with certainprocedures.

  • Serves asliaison between team members management and physicians resolvingroutine matters for the shift and modality. Assists physiciansduringprocedures.
  • Providesaccurate explanations and instructions to patients and familymembers at an appropriate level utilizing verbal and nonverbalskills terminology andlanguage.

QUALITY / SAFETYESSENTIALFUNCTIONS

Followssafety standards and conducts all imaging procedures accordingly.Maintains proper sterile techniques for procedures regularlypractices aseptic techniques and ensures compliance with radiationsafety and infection control procedures.

Complies with job roledepartment and hospital safety standards practices andpolicies.

Identifiesopportunities for corrective action and process improvementproviding recommendations and contributes to meeting department andhospital targets for quality and safety.

Reports near misses andinputs errors promptly into appropriate hospital patient safetyreporting system to improve processes and identify trends.

Providesfeedback to management on team member performance and conduct.Conducts quality audits on equipment processes outcomes and teammember performance.

Documents develops and evaluates processes andprocedures.

Assists withimplementation and education of department based safety initiativesstandards of practice and protocols. Develops skills of teammembers and continually assists with improving skills performanceandoutcomes

FINANCEESSENTIALFUNCTIONS

Providesaccurate and complete documentation of patient procedures. Enterscharges at the time service is delivered. Participates in thebudgeting process for capital and minor equipment.

Reconciliationof invoices.

Usesresources efficiently; does not waste supplies. Selfmotivated toindependently manage time effectively and prioritize daily tasksand provides leadership to team members on effective and efficientutilization of time.

Accurately reviews and edits team members timecards for management approval asappropriate.

GROWTH / INNOVATIONESSENTIALFUNCTIONS

Participatesin department projects and shared governance activities. Activelyleads and supports special projects and department initiatives andseeks opportunities to expand learning with a focus on continualdevelopment.

Completes and updates the individual development plan(IDP) on an ongoingbasis.

Fosters a positiveand constructive teaching environment by engaging students andcoworkers (Technologist I II and support staff) in learningopportunities that are valuable and in alignment with businessobjectives.

EDUCATION

Graduateof education program approved by the credentialing body for therequired credential(s) indicated below in the CertificationsLicenses and Registrations section.

WORKEXPERIENCE

Four yearsexperience as an MRI Technologist. May consider HM employee withthree years experience as an MRI Technologist who demonstratesleadershipabilities.

LICENSESAND CERTIFICATIONSREQUIRED

  • CMRT CertifiedMedical Radiologic Technologist State Licensure OR
  • ARRTMRRadiologic Technologist Magnetic Resonance Imaging (ARRT) OR
  • ARMRITRegistered Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist AND
  • BLS Basic LifeSupport (AHA)

KNOWLEDGESKILLS ANDABILITIES

  • Demonstratesthe skills and competencies necessary to safely perform theassigned job determined through ongoing skills competencyassessments and performanceevaluations
  • Sufficientproficiency in speaking reading and writing the English languagenecessary to perform the essential functions of this job especiallywith regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety orsecurity
