SUMMARY :

We are seeking a dedicated Physical Therapist to develop and implement specific treatment programs for individual pediatric patients, in accordance with the principles and practices of Physical Therapy.

This role involves collaborating with an interdisciplinary treatment team and being accountable to the Clinical Coordinator of Rehab Services.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

1. Evaluate the physical condition and needs of patients by reviewing requisitions for Physical Therapy and conducting patient interviews.

a. Develop tailored programs of corrective exercise and treatment.

a. Apply treatments such as exercise, gait training, soft tissue mobility, whirlpool, hot packs, ultrasound, paraffin, ice packs, electrical stimulation, and traction, ensuring proper equipment usage, application, and body position.

b. Provide instructions on the use of wheelchairs, crutches, canes, braces, and prosthetic appliances and devices.

c. Monitor patient progress and recommend modifications or changes to treatment plans when necessary.

d. Collaborate with physicians regarding alternative treatment options.

3. Prepare accurate written documentation, including evaluation results, treatment plans, progress reports, and discharge summaries.

4. Communicate effectively with nursing and interdisciplinary team members to ensure coordinated patient care.

5. Provide guidance and direction to support staff members assisting in patient care.

6. Adhere to department policies, procedures, objectives, and quality initiative program, as well as safety and infection control guidelines.

a. Maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors, and employees.

2. Utilize safety devices on equipment.

3. Wear necessary safety clothing and report any unsafe conditions.

4. Participate in safety programs and trainings.

b. Familiarize yourself with and adhere to department policies and procedures.

c. Assist the Clinical Coordinator with quality initiative indicators, as needed.

7. Assist with the care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.

8. Attend required meetings and participate in committees, as directed.

9. Transport patients to and from the PT Department, as necessary.

10. Assume the duties and responsibilities of Senior Therapists in their absence.

11. Continuously enhance professional growth and development through educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.

12. Attend all annual mandatory educational programs as required by your position.

13. Provide age-appropriate care to patients of varying age groups.

14. Deliver exceptional customer service by interacting with patients in a friendly and caring manner, attending to their needs, and maintaining open communication throughout their experience.

• EDUCATION :
• Must hold a license or be eligible for licensure to practice physical therapy in NYS at the time of hire.
• EXPERIENCE :
• Prior experience in a hospital setting preferred.
• CARDIOPULMONARY RESUSCITATION (CPR) REQUIREMENTS :
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 90 days of hire date.
• PHYSICAL DEMANDS :
• This role requires appreciable physical effort or strain, including occasional repetitive movements. May involve lifting, pushing, and pulling.

Must be able to lift at least thirty (30) pounds independently and up to one-hundred and fifty (150) pounds with the assistance of another person.

• EXPOSURE CATEGORY :
• Category II. Involves no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues. However, there may be unplanned tasks with potential exposure.
• INFECTION CONTROL :
• Adhere to universal precautions when engaging in patient care.
• ABOUT THE AREA :
• Elmira is a charming town in western New York, located along the Pennsylvania border and in close proximity to the beautiful Finger Lakes region.
