Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
Location : Kyle, TX
Job Type : Full-Time
Key Responsibilities :
- Assess and evaluate the educational needs of students with visual impairments, including conducting functional vision assessments and learning media assessments.
- Develop, implement, and monitor individualized education programs (IEPs) tailored to students needs.
- Provide direct instruction in orientation and mobility, braille, and other adaptive skills as needed.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, therapists, and other specialists to integrate students' needs into the general education curriculum.
- Design and adapt instructional materials and teaching strategies to accommodate various visual impairments and learning styles.
- Train and support classroom teachers, aides, and families in the use of assistive technologies and strategies for supporting students with visual impairments.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of student assessments, progress, and IEP meetings.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in the education of students with visual impairments.
Qualifications :
- Bachelors degree in Special Education, Education of the Visually Impaired, or a related field (Masters degree preferred).
- Valid Texas Teaching Certificate with an endorsement in Visual Impairments or Teacher of the Visually Impaired certification.
- Experience working with students with visual impairments is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of visual impairments, assistive technologies, and best practices in specialized instruction.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, families, and staff.
- Ability to develop and implement effective instructional plans and adapt teaching methods to meet diverse needs.
- Patience, empathy, and a commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.
