Summary :
Provides direct and indirect services to theGI patient under the supervision of the professional nurse andperforms tasks as necessary for the efficient and effectivefunctioning of the GI room, as well as the delivery of quality ofcare.
Responsible for the preparation, maintenance, and cleaning ofequipment and supplies and may assist in performing invasiveendoscopic procedures.
Responsibilities :

- Supports andassists physicians and registered nurses with procedures asdirected.
- Verifies proper equipmentfunctioning and performs safety checks.
- Maintains endoscopic equipment and prepares broken scopes to besent for repairs.
- Collects and deliversspecimens collected during procedures, ensuring the field remainssterile.
- Assist with placing monitors onpatient.
- Distributes information regardingequipment or instruments at in-service trainingsessions.
- Validates and refreshes basicprofessional skills through active participation at in-servicetrainings.

- procedures for leak testing,cleaning, inspecting, disinfecting, sterilizing, packaging, andstoring each specific endoscope make and model, including equipmentand equipment connections
- identification of items that are singleuse and intended to be discarded after use;
- allaspects of decontamination (e. g., disassembly, manual andmechanical cleaning methods and how to monitor their effectiveness,microbicidal processes, equipment operation, inspection, standardprecautions, and engineering and work practicecontrols);
- the operation of the specific manualand mechanical cleaning processes and equipment, manual andmechanical HLD processes, and sterilizing systems used by thehealth care facility, and the methods and equipment used to verifyoperation
- facility and processing area policiesand procedures regarding high-level disinfection and sterilization,infection prevention and control, attire, hand hygiene, andcompliance with local, state, and / or federalregulations;
- workplace safety related tochemical use and biological hazards
- OSHAstandards and requirements;
- Applicablepersonnel exposure monitoring specific to chemicalsused;
- Recognizing and responding toexposure-related symptoms (e. g., difficulty breathing, skinirritation, eye tearing, mucous membraneirritation);
- Location and correct use ofPPE;
- Location and use ofSDS;
- Location and use of chemical spill kit(s);and
- Workplace-specific policies and proceduresrelated to endoscope processing, high-level disinfection, andsterilization;
- the process of leak testing whenindicated in the manufacturer's writtenIFU;
- the process of obtaining and documentingquality control monitoring results;
- the processfor visual inspection of endoscopes using lighted magnification andthe use, care, and handling of a borescope;
- theprocess for cleaning verification procedures, including method(s)for conducting the testing and interpreting the results;and
- the process for removing a damagedendoscope from service and sending it forrepair.
- Sterilizes andprepares rooms and equipment, such as scopes, before and afterprocedures as directed.
- Demonstratingunderstanding of the patient’s an atomy and abnormalities whichcould affect the procedure.
- Recognizesemergent situations during endoscopy procedures and demonstratesthe ability to set priorities to assist the endoscopyteam.
- Assists with therapeutic interventionssuch as balloon dilations, polypectomy, sphincterotomy, stentplacement, and gastrostomy tube placement.
- Coordinates review of special-order supply inventory and ensuresrooms are stocked for next day procedures.
- Independently completes annual competencies and any additionalcompetencies related to new procedures.

Requirements :
- High School diploma orequivalent.
- 0 - 1 years of experiencepreferred
- Preferred previous experience workingin the Operating Room or Endoscopy Unitpreferred.
- BLS (American Heart Association)required
- SGNA Certification within 6 months ofhire required
