Emergency Department Registered Nurse - Contract Position

Job Description

The Emergency Department Registered Nurse provides high-quality, compassionate care to patients and families. Utilizing nursing theory and technical skills, the ED RN assesses patient needs, prioritizes care, and collaborates on direct interventions. Responsibilities include managing urgent and emergent situations, performing assessments, and supporting patients and families through the emergency process. The ED RN fosters a Healing Environment while ensuring patients are informed and comfortable throughout their care experience.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct triage and identify priority of care following Triage Standards.
  • Perform comprehensive assessments to detect abnormalities and document findings.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure positive patient outcomes.
  • Prepare patients and families for diagnostic procedures and treatments.
  • Teach patients and families about care continuity and discharge instructions.
  • Support patients and families, addressing psychosocial and emotional needs.

    • Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

  • One year of acute hospital experience as a registered professional nurse.
  • BLS, ACLS, and Stroke Certification (AHA or RQI only) are required.
  • 2 years of experience in the Emergency Department preferred.
  • NYS RN Licensure is mandatory.

    • Schedule

    This position involves a rotating day and night shift schedule, specifically 7 AM - 7 PM and 7 PM - 7 AM, requiring 36 hours per week. The contract must run through the holiday season, with no guaranteed return to work on three major holidays.
