THE OPPORTUNITY
The Queens Community Justice Center-The Rockaways is seeking a Social Worker. Reporting to the Project Director, the Social Worker will work from a trauma informed lens to support and develop programming, conduct outreach, facilitate onsite psychoeducational groups, case management, evidence-based family therapy, supportive counseling sessions, referrals to community-based providers, and compliance monitoring for participants.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to :
- Provide comprehensive, clinically informed case management services to clients and participant as well as clients with serious mental illnesses;
- Conduct comprehensive psychosocial evaluations;
- Perform individual counseling sessions as needed;
- Facilitate group sessions for program participants;
- Provide outreach and engagement support to engage youth most impacted by sex exploitation and labor trafficking;
- Collaborate with the Coordinator for Queens HOPE-The Rockaways to create and facilitate a Queens-specific multidisciplinary task force comprised of court and community based service providers and survivor consultants to inform the work of Queens HOPE;
- Conduct family engagement and engage families for wrap around services as needed;
- Complete intakes of participants and administer assessment tools;
- Assist with the development and implementation of new programs, initiatives, and / or interventions;
- Establish and maintain relationships with community partners who can provide appropriate interventions and services to court-involved individuals;
- Identify and communicate with service providers to facilitate, follow-up and assist participants with voluntary service referrals;
- Attend trainings, ongoing professional development, and support related to human trafficking and labor trafficking;
- Attend staff meetings and on-going trainings as well as participate in community events held by the Queens Community Justice Center - The Rockaways;
- Work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team / task force of community programs staff;
- Provide administrative support to the program department team, including assisting with data entry, stipend payments, and contracts;
- Represent the QCJC-The Rockaways at community events and meetings, as requested;
- Ensure professional development of staff through monthly group supervision;
- Facilitate meetings as needed;
- Assist with other Queens Community Justice Center- The Rockaways projects as needed;
- Assist in developing programming for youth and the community that is trauma informed and centered around holistic wellness; and
- Perform other duties, as assigned.
Qualifications : The ideal candidate will have :
- Be an LMSW with a minimum of two years prior work in criminal justice and / or a related field required. Candidates with a MSW will be required to obtain their license within 90 days of employment;
- Experience working within a harm reduction framework and commitment to staying up to date on harm reduction best practices required;
- Experience conducting clinical assessments;
- Experience with drug / alcohol treatment, mental health services, co-occurring disorders, trauma- informed, and anti-oppressive practice required;
- Candidates must be willing and able to work collaboratively with colleagues and a variety of court personnel and partner agencies in a high-pressure / fast paced work environment;
- Court-based social work is a unique and demanding area of practice, and candidates must be open to constructive engagement with differing and, at times, competing perspectives;
- Experience with / or comfortability in learning to facilitate conversations related to identity, oppression, and privilege is a must;
- Experience and / or comfort working with youth;
- Experience and commitment to creating, promoting, and maintaining a respectful, inclusive, and anti-racist work environment;
- SIFI certification preferred; and
- Bilingual (English-Spanish) preferred.
Position Type : Full-time, 11 : 00am - 7 : 00pm.
Position Location : Far Rockaway, Queens.
Compensation : The compensation range for this position is $57,500 - $73,500 and is commensurate with experience.
