Title of Position : Senior / Lead Structure Engineer

SAI’s Newtown Square, PA office is seeking a candidate ready to take the next step in their career, join a growing team, and help shape the direction of the office.

The Senior / Lead Structure Engineer position includes mentoring junior staff to grow their knowledge of AASHTO / PennDOT design and bridge inspection codes / publications, delivering current and future transportation structures projects in collaboration with other SAI offices, serving as Team Leader on select bridge inspection projects, assisting with Department staffing and resource planning, assigning personnel to projects, leading training initiatives for Structures staff, and assisting with the growth of the office by contributing to project pursuits.

Essential Job Functions :

• Supervise Structures Department personnel.
• Act as Team Leader for select bridge inspections.
• Oversee development and updates to the Department’s Quality Plan.
• May act as Work Group Leader on some projects.
• Assign personnel to projects and project teams.
• Review design calculations, drawings, and reports.
• Assist with or review the development of technical proposals.
• Review resource estimates for proposals and supplements.
• Review the progress of assigned personnel relative to quality, schedule, and budget.
• Resolve design issues.
• Ensure that design procedures are followed.
• Lead Structures staff training mentoring initiatives.
• Participate in the new hire process, including interviews and annual reviews.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

• Personal skills to communicate with in-house staff.
• Knowledge of construction techniques for structures.
• Knowledge of applicable design codes for structures.
• Ability to teach design methods.
• Ability to develop resource estimates.
• Ability to develop construction schedules and estimates.

Education and Experience Required :

• BS degree in civil engineering.
• PE required.
• CBSI required. Active in current bridge inspection contracts preferred. Previous bridge inspection management experience is a plus.
• Six (6) years of experience minimum, eight (8) to twelve (12) years of experience preferred.
• Fluent with PennDOT LRFD design programs and LFD / ASD analysis programs.
• Attain training prerequisites according to SAI schedules.

Relationship to Others :

• Reports to Newtown Square Office Manager.
• Coordinates with Department Managers, Vice Presidents, Project Managers, and Technology Managers.
• Coordinates work assignments with branch offices.
• Supervises Structures Department staff.
