SUMMARY OF POSITION :
The Director of Merchant Accounting position is a key team member of the Operations unit within the i3 Verticals Company.
This position reports to the Vice President of Merchant Operations and works closely with the executive team. The primary function of this position is to lead and assist the Merchant Accounting team in producing and analyzing financial reports related to the Merchant Accounting and Settlement processes.
The primary responsibilities are producing settlement reports from processors, paying residuals to sales offices, and fulfilling audit / tax requirements.
The person in this position serves as a subject matter expert and mentor for Merchant Accounting team members. The associate possesses strong business acumen, produces detailed analysis reviews of settlement and residual statements, and understands accounting principles.
The associate also works closely with the Finance and Operations Departments to understand the inflow and outflow of the data.
The successful candidate will possess a natural intellectual curiosity to learn proficiency at problem-solving and expertise in data content, facilitated through querying, analysis, and engagement in our business and accounting operations.
This person must be a self-starter, comfortable taking the initiative and driving projects that may directly impact company-wide operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Manage the Merchant Accounting Team.
- Support and develop the team members.
- Organize work and delegate assignments.
- Analyze tasks to find and implement process improvements.
- Assist in completing settlement statements, analyzing data, and identifying trends.
- Diagnose fluctuations with profitability, margin, pricing, or processing volumes.
- Create and maintain documentation & trendlines to assist in future problem resolution.
- Assist auditors in obtaining necessary data for audits. Identify, develop, and maintain continuous auditing / monitoring activities.
- Process complex residual reports to sales offices and continuously develop this process for improvement.
- Develop organizational accounting strategies by contributing accounting and financial information, analyzing and making strategic thinking and direction recommendations, and establishing functional objectives aligned with the organizational goals.
- Lead change to improve the processes for both short and long-term initiatives that produce financial or operational improvements.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with colleagues, sales, and executives.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE) :
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Prior Management Experience.
- Accounting or Finance background
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access database and queries
- Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Exceptional attention to detail and time management skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE) :
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
- Preference is given to those with experience in the Payments Processing Industry
