Performs routine laboratory tests and procedures as directed, with supervision.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

  • Performs a variety of laboratory tests and procedures according to prescribed protocols and assigned schedules.
  • Collects data via laboratory experiments utilizing standard laboratory equipment, structured interviews, library research, data processing and / or other research techniques.
  • If applicable, after appropriate training, assists in surgery and the care of animals.
  • If applicable, after appropriate training and with supervision, uses radioactive, infectious, bio-hazardous, and / or toxic substances.
  • Records data according to project requirements.
  • If applicable, after appropriate training, assist with surgical procedures, as necessary.
  • Processes acquired data and assists in its summarization using standard scientific techniques including computer programs.
  • Makes periodic reports of project status to supervisor.
  • Assists in care and maintenance of equipment, supplies, and work area. Alerts supervisor to equipment and supply needs.
  • Performs clerical duties incidental to research tasks as required.
  • Attends meetings as required.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through educational programs, seminars, and / or conferences.
  • Performs other laboratory related functions as required or directed.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :

  • 1.Work requires a bachelors’ degree. Requires intermediate math skills and ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry;
  • apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form; .deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations;
  • read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; write routine reports and correspondence;

and speak effectively before groups of employees.

WORKING CONDITIONS :

Potential Exposure to Blood Borne Pathogens. Job may require performance of tasks that involve potential for exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :

Requires clear vision at 20 inches or less and depth perception.Work requires some lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
