SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory’s Facilities and Operations (F&O) Division manages one of the world’s premier science facilities on a 400-acre Stanford site with 150+ structures for the Department of Energy.

We are seeking a Utilities Mechanic Technician to join our Mechanical Utilities Department. Members of this team are responsible for the operation and maintenance of all mechanical infrastructural systems including cooling water systems (LCW, CTW, CHW, & PCHW), underground utilities (storm and sanitary, natural gas, & compressed air piping systems), HVAC systems (offices and laboratory spaces).
In this position, you will perform a broad range of mechanical services including but not limited to operating, monitoring, and maintaining mechanical utility systems in support of a range of infrastructures and experimental research programs in a research facility at SLAC.
Your specific responsibilities include :
- Turn mechanical utility systems on and off.
- Monitor and make necessary adjustments to operational systems.
- Perform preventative maintenance.
- Trouble shoot problems, and repair malfunctioning systems and equipment.
- Fabricate, calibrate, and install equipment.
- Assist accelerator operators, experimenters, and equipment users when mechanical adjustments and repairs on utility systems are needed.
- May occasionally perform minor adjustments, reset, and repair controlling instrumentation, valves, switches, flow and pressure devices, pumps and electrical breakers, etc.
- Maintain equipment operating records and log sheets.
- Organize and maintain equipment storage facilities.
- Ensure that safety rules are followed.

To be successful in this position you will bring :
- High School diploma or vocational curriculum plus three years journey level experience maintaining mechanical systems and equipment or a combination of education and relevant experience.
- Practical working knowledge of a broad range of fields and equipment such as mechanics, electronics, electricity, instrumentation, pneumatics, hydraulics, high-pressure gas systems, compressors, pumps, motors, and valves, the ability to use a wide variety of hand tools and heavy equipment.
- Welding experience is a plus, MIG and TIG welding.
- Must be able to follow written and / or oral instructions.
- Familiarity with business software programs and applications.
- Be able to adhere to applicable environmental and safety rules, regulations, and requirements.
Certifications and Licenses :
Valid California non-commercial Class C driver’s license and good driving record

The expected pay range for this position is $ 49.13 (Step 1) - $ 59.48 (Step 10) per hour. Placement in the range is subject to the applicable Collective Bargaining Unit.

This position is represented by SEIU Local 2007 and the collective bargaining agreement between the university and SEIU Local 2007 governs the terms and conditions of employment.
