Amazon Last Mile Technology is the team that enables super-fast delivery for Amazon. We build products and technology that enables the stations and drivers to deliver your packages, food, and restaurant deliveries from their last stop to your home.

We need software development managers to lead several new initiatives.

The Emerging Business and Technology team takes on new initiatives and new businesses within Amazon's rapidly growing global Last Mile network.

The successful candidate will :

Be responsible for the end to end ownership of a technology team, including the mobile experience and its direct service dependencies, and setting the technical vision for developing our systems to serve Amazon's needs.

Hire and manage great software engineers that are responsible for developing and maintaining software that optimizes our transportation network.

Be an advocate for engineering and operational excellence : establish team metrics for measurement of engineering and operational excellence and a consistent, regular process for assessment and improvement.

Establish a consistent, project management framework and excellent development processes to deliver high quality software, in rapid iterations, for business partners in multiple geographies.

Show strong business and technical judgment that will accelerate time to market of releases, while incrementally moving our services towards the long term vision.

Be responsible for mentoring and developing engineers.

Represent the technical organization and evangelize the work to senior leadership.

Raise the bar on technical excellence, show thought leadership, and communicate well to different audiences.

About the team

The Last Mile SWAT team is a specialized workflows unit that expands the last mile's use case into non-standard scenarios, supporting new and emerging businesses.

This includes services beyond doorstep delivery, special product handling, compliance, pickups, and more. We have broadened AMZL's capabilities to encompass new programs and use cases, focusing on the on-road driver experience.

The application developed by this team is utilized by millions of drivers worldwide and is vital for the packages delivered by Amazon.

As the Last Mile business expands, this team plays a crucial role in fostering new experiences and ideas, driving innovation in the essential operations domain.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience
  • 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
  • 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  • 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software / hardware / networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring / coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
