Position Summary :
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Outpatient Coder to support hospital-based outpatient coding across all service lines. The ideal candidate will possess strong knowledge of ICD-10, CPT / HCPCS, and modifier usage and hold a current coding certification such as RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or COC. This fully remote role plays a critical part in ensuring coding accuracy, documentation integrity, and revenue cycle performance.
Key Responsibilities :
- Review clinical documentation to assign accurate diagnostic and procedural codes for all outpatient hospital services.
- Ensure compliance with applicable classification systems, regulatory requirements, and payer guidelines.
- Assign ICD-10, CPT / HCPCS codes, and modifiers for billing, internal / external reporting, and research purposes.
- Monitor documentation turnaround times and productivity; follow up on deferred accounts or incomplete documentation as needed.
- Analyze and generate reports related to coding utilization, denials, and reimbursement trends.
- Provide coding feedback to providers, department leaders, and revenue cycle teams to improve documentation quality.
- Collaborate with coding educators to support provider education and documentation improvement initiatives.
- Escalate complex coding and documentation issues to leadership and assist in implementing corrective action plans.
- Contribute to workflow updates and the development of coding tools.
- Partner with the denials team to support resolution of coding-related denials.
- Participate in special projects as assigned.
