Job Description

30% - Fire Safety Building Assessment Program Management :

Serves as the MUSC Fire Marshall in all capacities regulatory and compliance operations and discussions.

Inspections and Corrective Actions :

Conduct regular fire safety building inspections across all facilities.

Identify and document deficiencies, submit corrective work orders.

Collaborate with facilities management and other partners to provide guidance and oversight on fire safety repairs and improvements.

Fire Safety Equipment Inspections :

Perform monthly inspections of portable fire protection equipment, including fire extinguishers and hose systems.

Assist with annual maintenance inspections of all portable fire protection equipment.

Fire Drills and Emergency Preparedness :

Schedule and conduct fire drills across the main campus and off-site clinics to ensure readiness in the event of an emergency.

Develop and implement site-specific fire plans and evacuation maps tailored to each facility.

Fire Incident Investigation and Reporting :

Investigate fire incidents and prepare detailed reports for submission to local and state agencies.

30% - Fire Safety Operations and Reporting Program Management

Vendor Contract Management :

Review, amend, and manage contracts with vendors for fire suppression systems, portable fire protection equipment, and fire doors.

Ensure all vendor services comply with regulatory standards and organizational requirements.

Data Management and Reporting :

Collect and abstract fire safety data for analysis.

Prepare comprehensive reports for the Fire Safety Committee, MUSC and community leadership partners.

Maintain and update Fire and Life Safety test and inspection records for review by regulatory agencies.

Code Interpretation and Consultation :

Provide expert interpretation of fire and life safety codes for the Medical University of South Carolina enterprise and external partners.

Serve as a resource for departments requiring guidance on compliance with fire safety regulations.

Regulatory Agency Coordination :

Escort and collaborate with local, state, and federal agencies during fire and life safety inspections and audits.

Ensure all findings from inspections are addressed and that the facility maintains compliance with regulatory expectations.

20% - Environment of Care Fire Safety Plan Management :

Safety Plan Development and Primary Liaison to MUSC Leadership

Develop, implement, and manage the Environment of Care fire safety plan, ensuring full adherence to the Joint Commission Life Safety chapter and other relevant standards.

Regularly review and update fire safety policies, procedures, and protocols to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

Building Rounds and Deficiency Tracking :

Conduct regular Environment of Care building rounds to monitor fire safety conditions.

Record and track all deficiencies, ensuring timely corrective action is taken.

Data Management and Reporting :

Collect and abstract fire safety data for analysis.

Prepare comprehensive reports for the Environment of Care committee, MUSC and community leadership partners.

Maintain and update Environment of Care inspection records for review by regulatory agencies.

20% - Fire Safety Team Management :

Provide leadership and development of Fire Safety team members

Oversee the operations of the fire safety team, including scheduling and conducting bi-weekly check-ins.

Perform annual performance reviews and provide ongoing training and development for team members.

Ensure the fire safety team is equipped and prepared to handle all fire safety responsibilities effectively.

Infrequent) Ability to push / pull objects, up to 15 lbs., unassisted. (Infrequent) Ability to maintain 20 / 40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes.
