Scope : The Historical Society of Carroll County in Westminster is searching for a Visitors Services Assistant with a business / retail focus to join our team.
This is a great way to obtain real-world public history experience and learn what it takes behind the scenes to operate a museum.
Primary Responsibilities :
- Assisting with Bookshop promotion duties
- Assisting patrons in the Society's Bookshop
- Assisting with Shop merchandise inventories
- Assisting with set up of Bookshop Signings events
Secondary Responsibilities :
- Greeting and assisting Society patrons and visitors
- Showing patrons and visitors the Society's exhibit galleries and learning about the collections to help answer visitor questions
- Setting up and tearing down signage during open hours
- This position does have some limited lifting involved but not more than 10 pounds at a time
Schedule & Hire Process :
This position is available Wednesday-Friday weekly but HSCC will work closely with students to establish hours that accommodates school priorities and adheres to Federal Work Study guidelines.

Physical Characteristics :
This position requires sitting for long periods of time, as well as some bending and stooping when working with files. This position does have some limited lifting involved but not more than 10 pounds at a time.
Quite a bit of finger / hand dexterity is involved in regards to typing and / or filing. The overall setting of the job is in an area conducive to a normal office environment with minimal exposure to adverse conditions.
