Job Description

The Field Service Technician MUST live a commutable distance to Syracuse, New York. The Public Safety customers are located centrally in the state of New York.

  • Perform preventative maintenance routines to ensure proper system operation with focus on trend analysis and documentation of results
  • Develop solutions to difficult technical problems encountered as part of system maintenance, upgrades or support issues
  • Continuous training in the latest technologies and troubleshooting techniques
  • Team with Engineering, Project Management and Sales personnel to effectively maintain, optimize and support advanced communication systems which meet or exceed customer expectations

Develop solutions to difficult technical problems encountered as part of system maintenance, upgrades or support issues

Optimize and support complex communication systems and software applications, including advanced troubleshooting of software driven electronics, provisioning of communication system infrastructure and performance optimization of RF and Broadband systems.

Maintain, optimize, test and document complex communications systems.

Provide weekly reports of activities and accomplishments

Deliver knowledge of R.F. systems, such as transmitters, receivers, and antenna networks

Deliver knowledge in standard telephony and dedicated data circuits, and packet switching techniques

Specific Knowledge / Skills :

2 year Associate Degree in Electronics or IT (preferred), or equivalent on-the-job experience

Security +, CompTIA or related certificate is highly desirable

Proficient in computer network installation, configuration and maintenance systems to include cabling, routers, switches, firewalls and bridges.

Knowledge of wired communications systems, such as local area networks (LAN) and wide area networks (WAN)

Experience with logging recording systems, RF interfaces, wired / wireless communications systems and networking equipment

Computer literate with proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access

Must have a current, valid driver’s license and no traffic violations

Strong self-management skills and "people" skills to work closely with Motorola’s customers and subcontractor (MSS) community, as well as Motorola Sales, Engineering, Project Management, and customer service teams

Self-motivated and self-managed to perform the required duties at a distance from direct supervision

Must be able to solve customer problems quickly during stressful situations

Candidate Requirements :

  • Must be able to obtain background clearance as required by government customer.
  • Must reside in Central New York or be willing to commute to Public Safety customers located in Central New York
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. indefinitely is required. Employer work permit sponsorship is not available for this position.

Must have a current, valid driver’s license and no traffic violations.

Must be willing to travel 30% of the time as needed.

Basic Requirements

2+ years experience in one of the following : LMR, RF systems, Radio Communications, Radio Frequency, Wired / Wireless Communication Systems, IT Systems, Telecommunications, Public Safety, Engineering or Networking equipment.
