Salary range :

The salary range for this position is $173,000 to $313,800. This position includes membership in the Health Sciences Compensation Plan which provides for eligibility for additional compensation.

Position description

The Department of Neurosurgery at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA is recruiting for a clinician-investigator, physician-scientist, or Ph.

D. scientist to provide leadership in innovative research and education related to neurosurgery, particularly related to skull base brain tumors and / or traumatic brain injury.

The successful candidate will be expected to lead the department to new levels of excellence in brain tumors and / or brain injury, and thereby make a lasting impact within UCLA Health and the UCLA campus.

As a pre-eminent clinician or scientist, scholar, and leader, the candidate will be considered for the inaugural Donald P.

Becker, M.D. Endowed Term Chair in Neurosurgery. Successful candidates should have national recognition and distinguished scholarship in neurosurgery or neuroscience at the Associate or Full Professor rank in the In-Residence Series or Health Science series.

The initial term of the Donald P. Becker, M.D. Endowed Term Chair in Neurosurgery is for five years with the option of reappointment per regularly established University procedures for endowed chair appointments.

The endowment will provide special financial recognition to the individual selected to support resident and graduate student education, research, supplies, educational activities, and other areas related to further the mission of the Department of Neurosurgery, the DGSOM, and the campus.

It is expected that the holder of the endowed chair will advance appropriately through the faculty ranks based on their scholarly activities, teaching, professional competence, and service to the University and community.

Responsibilities include : Develop a nationally prominent clinical and / or research program in the areas of brain tumors or brain injury.

Serve as a mentor to graduate students, residents, fellows, and junior faculty. Develop training and education initiatives for medical students, residents and faculty interested in brain tumors or brain injury.

Foster collaborative relationships and interdisciplinary research teams and encourage scholarship in the areas of research and treatment related to brain tumors or brain injury.

Qualification Requirements : PhD, MD, or MD / PhD or equivalent degree(s); Candidates must have active extramural research funding in brain tumors and / or traumatic brain injury at UCLA or that is transferable to UCLA, a strong record of publication and career development in biomedical animal- and / or human-based research and demonstrated excellence in teaching and mentoring.

In addition, the candidate must have the ability to anticipate change and implement initiatives to meet the challenges of academic medicine and science, a demonstrated commitment to diversity, and excellent interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with administration, trainees, researchers, clinicians, faculty in other disciplines, and staff.

The ability to work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse environment is required.
