Responsible for all aspects of patient care from pre-procedure through post-procedure phase.
Responsibilities
A day in the life of an Orthopedic Coordinator in the Operating Room at Hackensack Meridian includes :
1. Acts as a Preceptor, as assigned, for new staff members : Supports a training philosophy and acts to facilitate this program on a daily basis.
Functions as scrub or circulator in OR, as needed : Performs all duties as expected. Maintains up-to-date preference cards in specialty and reviews with physicians as necessary : Documents and makes changes into the system with 24 hours to ensure lists are accurate.
Maintains current knowledge of technical developments and use of instrumentation and equipment : Remains competent in the use of appropriate surgical equipment.
2. Reviews and monitors daily environmental surveillance such as temperature and humidity, gluteraldehyde monitoring, medical waste disposal, sterilization logs and other duties as assigned.
Surveillance is performed on a daily basis and acceptable level are maintained.
3. Establishes, implements and maintains an inventory control system for supplies in assigned area in coordination with manager and physicians : Inventory control system is functioning accurately and all staff is trained to utilize the system properly on an ongoing basis.
Ensures all supplies and equipment are available and functioning in assigned areas prior to case and coordinates with physicians and materials manager : Makes rounds to ensure the necessary equipment and supplies are available.
4. Provides quality patient care as outlined in Perioperative Standards of Care and the Department's policy and Procedures : Standards of Care are maintained.
Performs patient assessments and meets their educational needs during all phases of perioperative care : Provides a nursing assessment using appropriate standards of nursing care for 100% of patients who receive services in the OR.
Documentation will be 95% complete including present history, past relevant medical history, mechanism of injury, and contributing factors.
Responsible for delivery and documentation of all phases of perioperative care (pre, intra and post procedure) : Delivery of services and documentation are according to policy.
5. Maintains a safe environment by strict adherence to established safety principles and practice, including but not limited to : universal precautions, electrical hazards, hazardous waste, positioning, and aseptic technique.
Is able to provide correct response to each situation in a timely, efficient and calm manner.
6. Leads team in room turnover procedures following established protocols for cleaning of room and equipment in established time frame to ensure quick and efficient utilization of areas.
Turnover procedures meet the time frame established to ensure patient's continuum of care.
7. Manages and / or assists in the recruitment, development and supervision of team members. Creates and sustains an environment that fosters team member engagement.
Establishes clear objectives tied to department and / or organizational strategic goals. Coaches, counsels and evaluates performance of direct reports.
8. Financial Management : Involved in the development and / or management of budget for assigned areas. Regularly monitors relevant key financial indicators and performance metrics, modifying business activities where needed in response to changing financial situations.
9. Track, analyze, and report on relevant data and metrics as needed and / or requested. Develop, recommend and / or implement actions or process improvements as appropriate.
10. Other duties and / or projects as assigned.
11. Responsible for Administrative Call on a rotating basis.
12. Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
13. Lifts a minimum of 5 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 5 lbs. and stands a minimum of 1 hour a day.
Qualifications
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required :
1. BSN within three (3) years of job acceptance.
2. Minimum of 5 years OR experience and teaching experience in a classroom or clinical setting; 3-5 years OR experience
3. Ability to work as part of a cohesive team; Scrub and Circulator skills; Excellent communication, facilitation and delegation skills
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred :
1. CNOR preferred
