Summary :

The competent Nurse, in the same or similar clinicalsetting, practices independently and demonstrates an awareness ofall relevant aspects of a situation.

Provides routine and complexcare, with the ability to on long-range goals or plans. Continuesto develop the ability to cope with and manage contingencies ofclinical nursing.

Makes appropriate assignments and delegates toother care providers as a means to help manage the clinicalsituation.

CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital -Westover Hills (CSRH-WH) is a 150-bed hospital serving the fastestgrowing area of San Antonio.

Specialized care includes orthopedicand surgical services, ICU, women’s services, a newborn nursery,comprehensive cardiovascular care from diagnostics to open heartsurgery, vascular lab, sleep center, emergency services, theCHRISTUS Weight Loss Institute, wound care, rehabilitation, andmore.

The campus also boasts an Outpatient Imaging Center and threemedical plazas, one of which houses our CHRISTUS Santa Rosa FamilyMedicine Residency Program and CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Family HealthCenter.

Responsibilities :

  • Meets expectations of theapplicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies : Leader of Self, Leader ofOthers, or Leader of Leaders.
  • Consistent withthe ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, provides nursing careutilizing the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis,planning, intervention and evaluation for assignedpatients.
  • Addresses increasingly complexpsychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patient andfamilies in accordance with their level ofpractice.
  • Using the appropriate protocol,administers medications and treatments; monitors for side-effectsand effectiveness of the treatment prescribed.
  • Documents patient history, symptoms, medication, and caregiven.
  • Assess learning needs and provideseducation to patients, family members and / or care givers; identifyissues and resources.

Patient Chart Reading andInterpretation

  • Describes experiencesin reading and interpreting patient charts for patients on unit andunder own care
  • Reviews patients’ charts forcompletion and accuracy; identifies and alerts to mistakes oromissions
  • Recognizes unexpected readings andalerts nursing or medical staff
  • Relatesexamples of mis-readings or misinterpretations and lessonslearned
  • Reviews, discusses and validates owninterpretation with others

PatientSafety

JobRequirements : Education / Skills

Education / Skills

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing,preferred
  • All newly hired experienced RNs mustattend New Nurses Orientation within the first 30 days ofhire.
  • New hires are precepted by adesignated trained staff member and initial on-boardingrequirements are validated through successful completion of thedesignated organizational entry competency validation and aPerinatal Department-specific competency validation.
  • Completion of all annual competencyverification requirements.

Experience

  • 1 year of experience in the related nursingspecialty preferred
  • Perinatal RN Residency, orrecently practicing in a Perinatal Setting ispreferred.

Licenses,Registrations, or Certifications

  • BLS required
  • RN License instate of employment or compact
  • Currentcertification from NCC Electronic Fetal Monitoring (C-EFM) or oneof the following AWHONN courses : Intermediate FHM, Intermediate FHMInstructor, Advanced FHM Instructor, or Instructor Trainer at thetime of hire for experienced nurses.

If previously uncertified,certification must be obtained within 30 days of hire as theycannot practice independently without it.

For new graduates andexperienced nurses new to the specialty, certification must beobtained within 4 months of hire and maintained thereafter.

  • Current ACLS certification within 30days of hire for experienced nurses; within 90 days of hire for newgraduates then required to maintain certification thereafter.
  • Current NRP certification at time ofhire for experienced nurses; within 60 days for new graduates andexperienced nurses new to the specialty then required to maintaincertification thereafter.
