Safety Specialist - St. Charles
Day Shift
- Under general direction of the s i te management, the Safety Special i st serves as a lead contact and ass i sts the site with t he development and the i mplementation of health and safety regulatory programs;
- develops procedures, training, and audit programs to enhance site Health & Safety programs; takes part in maintaining safe workplace for employees by assist i ng with the prevention of accidents and the handling of near miss, first aid, and recordable incidents and by maintaining and exceeding regulatory compliance;
and assists the site to ensure that Health & Safety culture is integrated in a consistent manner i nto operations and supporting services.
Responsibilities :
- Performs H&S assignments using 5S and safety concepts and p rinciples to anticipate, iden t ify, evaluate, and mitigate HSE hazards for manufacturing, labora to ry, and maintenance work areas and activities.
- Lead H&S im provement teams, conduct Job Safety Analysis, and represent H&S department in MOC meetings and coordinate with regulatory agencies, emergency responders, r i sk insurers, internal customers on safety issues.
- Ensure all incidents and near miss reports are investigated properly - with adequacy and completeness - and ensure that i dentified corrective actions are implemen ted and tracked to ensure sustainability to prevent re - occurrence.
- Represent the site with regulatory agencies and prepare and manage preparation of all H&S submitta l s to these agencies .
- Primary responsibility for developing and conducting plant H&S tra ining and ensuring proper commun i cation of health and safety issues.
- Conduct audits of the H&S programs, review results, and prepare and ensure corrective actions are implem ented and sustained;
Review existing H&S polic ie s and rev ised policies as needed .
- Assume role of ERT inc i dent commander , provide ERT technical support, and maintain ERT equipment in conjunct i on with Plan t Manager or delegate .
- Manage compliance, plant safety statist i cs / data management , r ecordkeeping, and report i ng requiremen t s.
- Implement and maintain / continue to improve H&S procedures and processes.
- Attend training as required to ma intain the required certifications and act as a resource to site employees addressing health and safety co ncerns on the plant floor.
Required Education and Experience :
- Associate or Bachelor's degree in industrial safety, or associated area such as science or engineer i ng
- 3+ years' experience in a manufacturing envi r onment, preferably chem i cal processing
- Excellent ora l and written comm u nication skills, including presentation skills - with the ability to effectively address multiple client service requests and communicate to diverse audiences
- Clear unders t anding of OSHA regu l ations and H&S programs (including but not limited to emergency response, hazard recognition and control, HazCom, hot work, ergonomics, LOTO,
- confined space, etc.)
- Strong leadership and i nterpersona l ability to work cross-departmentally, with regulatory agencies at the local, state, and federal.
Must interact with the public and other external parties constructively on H&S issues
