Staff Software Engineer

Staff Software Engineer - Core Platform

Location- 100% remote within the United States or Canada

As a Staff Software Engineer in the Core Platform team , you will be working on designing, architecting, and implementing highly scalable, distributed, and fault tolerant backend systems that handle user onboarding, content management, Terraform / OpenAPI access, auditing, health tracking, and more.

You will be part of our continuous intelligence platform team and will be working on building systems and frameworks that are used by other teams in the company as well as features used by our end customers.

Responsibilities :

• Collaborate with product thought leaders to help shape product strategy and provide technical direction for impactful experiences for our customers
• Evaluate requirements, define technical specifications, estimate development costs, review design and communicate to stakeholders
• Lead, organize, and participate in cross-team discussions on system design and architecture
• Mentor and coach fellow engineers with technical leadership and fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented team environment
• Analyze and improve efficiency, scalability, and reliability of our services
• Write robust code; demonstrate its robustness through automated tests

Requirements :

• B.S. in Computer Sciences or related discipline (M.S. is a plus)
• 8+ years of industry experience with a proven track record of ownership and delivery
• Experience developing scalable distributed data processing solutions
• Experience in multi-threaded programming
• Experience in running large scalable distributed services following a microservice architecture
• Object-oriented programming experience (e.g. Java, Scala)

Desirable :

• Experience in multi-tenant and / or 24x7 commercial service
• Experience designing / building scalable REST API for distributed microservices
• Experience with AWS environments and services will be big plus (e.g. EC2, ELB, SQS, KMS, Cloudwatch, etc)
• Experience with Terraform and OpenAPI
• Happy working with Unix (Linux, OS X)
• Agile software development experience (test-driven development, iterative and incremental development) is a plus

Sumo Logic Privacy Policy

The expected annual base salary range for this position is $185,000 - $210,000 + 10% bonus. In addition to base pay, certain roles are eligible to participate in our bonus or commission plans, as well as our benefits offerings, and equity awards.

Compensation varies based on a variety of factors which include (but aren’t limited to) role level, skills and competencies, qualifications, knowledge, location, and experience.
