Responsibilities

The Compliance and Benefits Specialist (the Specialist) will be a key member of the People & Culture Team at TSNE, dedicated to ensuring that our employees receive exceptional support and service.

This role is crucial in supporting the management and administration of employee benefits programs, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws, and supporting employee wellness and recognition initiatives.

The Specialist will act as a liaison between employees and the organization, providing accurate and timely information, handling inquiries, and assisting with various Human Resources processes.

Essential Functions

Benefits Administration 50%

  • Support the implementation of new benefits programs, policies, and administrative procedures that are market competitive, cost effective, and legally compliant.
  • Manage benefits administration of health and wellness benefits programs. Tasks include, but are not limited to :
  • Enrolling and processing changes for medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Handling reports and communications related to life, accident, and disability insurance.
  • Processing COBRA and monthly pension reports.
  • Reviewing and processing monthly commuter benefits.
  • Act as point of contact for incoming benefits questions; connect employees with Sr. HR Business Partner as needed.
  • Stay informed of all benefits regulations changes and rules-qualifying life events.
  • Assist Sr. HRBP with anything related to TSNE benefits including health, dental, vision, life, pension, short- and long-term disability insurance, etc.
  • Implement and manage compliance with all benefits legislation, including new processes and procedures.
  • Assist and monitor all aspects of employee leave for all employees at TSNE and our FSOs.
  • Support the Sr. HRBP with a benefits committee, a cross-functional working group focused on continuous improvement for the health plan and employee wellness benefits.

Compliance 45%

  • Prepare all employee data reports in accordance with annual regulatory filing processes and reporting while following internal and external auditing processes and procedures.
  • Create and maintain an internal resource of reputable resources for the interpretation and application of regulatory requirements
  • Review mandatory employee trainings and follow up with employees as needed for compliance.
  • Review conflict of interest responses and flag for HR Business Partners as appropriate.
  • Assist Sr. HRBP in maintaining updated labor law changes postings.
  • Support in completing all HR related reporting requirements.
  • Support the ongoing maintenance of employee handbook by drafting any new or updated TSNE-related policies and ensuring alignment of regulatory requirements and TSNE policies
  • Stay abreast of all HR-related federal, state, or local law changes.
  • Research, make recommendations, and implement any HR compliance-related changes.
  • Respond to and process all employee garnishments in accordance with federal and state regulations.
  • Run and track all employee and volunteer background checks and driving record checks and communicate to HRBPs and employees as needed.
  • Process all I-9 verifications via Equifax.
  • Respond to requests for employee verification.
  • Respond to requests for personal loan forgiveness

Wellness and Recognition Initiatives 5%

  • Track, communicate, and acknowledge employee engagement opportunities, birthdays, and recognition.
  • Support the development of surveys on needs and interests, interviews, and focus groups related to employee wellness and recognition programs.
  • Connect employees with the Employee Assistance Program (EAP), health coaches, team leaders, and others as needed for support.

Complete other tasks and projects related to the position, as needed.

Qualifications

  • At least three years of nonprofit or professional experience required.
  • Ability to pay close and accurate attention to detail.
  • Exemplary customer services skills and experience providing team-based services preferred.
  • Experience interpreting and explaining complex regulatory and compliance concepts to non-compliance focused audiences.
  • Some experience with multi-state HR laws and regulations highly desired.
  • Reporting and ADP experience a plus.
  • Ability to multi-task and juggle work between multiple people and groups and to meet multiple deadlines.
  • Prior experience supporting in a role focused on benefits and HR compliance preferred.
  • Excellent computer skills including using Microsoft Office suite and databases is required.
  • Ability to track and meet deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Desire to work in a multicultural setting with people of diverse backgrounds, traditions, customs and personalities.

Physical Demands / Work Environment

The physical demands described for this position are that of a typical office environment. Reasonable accommodations will be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the functions.

Ability to sit and / or stand for extended periods of time in front of a computer screen is an essential aspect of the position.

There may be a need to lift and / or move materials or equipment.

Location : Work will be performed between our office located at the NonProfit Center at 89 South Street, Suite 700, Boston, MA 02111 and your home office.

This position is required to be on-site once per month (on average) for in-person client engagements and some meetings with TSNE staff, which may take place outside of the TSNE office, and may require flexibility.

Schedule : This position is full-time at 37.5 hours per week and hours are flexible within reason.

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation : The salary for this position is $77,300 annually, paid hourly at $39.64.

Benefits : This position is eligible for a full benefits package including :

Generous Paid-Time-Off (PTO) : twelve paid holidays, three weeks of vacation, one week of personal holiday, and ability to accrue up to 487.

5 hours of health leave time for benefited staff.
