NPS - President's Park - Youth Project Coordinator

Position Details :

Stewards Individual Placements (Stewards) provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources.

Participants work with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits building institutional capacity, developing community relationships, and supporting ecosystem health.

Stewards, in partnership with the National Park Service seeks an individual placement who will manage all the youth and volunteer programs for The White House and President’s Park.

The individual placement will oversee creating, recruiting, and training for different volunteer positions within the park and developing opportunities for youth to acquire knowledge and connect to the NPS, creating pathways for future stewardship.

The mission of the National Park Service (NPS) is to preserve the natural and cultural resources and values of the National Park System for the enjoyment, education, and inspiration of current and future generations.

At The White House and President’s Park volunteers are integral to nearly every discipline, unit, and career field within the National Park Service (NPS);

they are vital to fulfilling our mission. The park acknowledges that the youth of today are the future stewards and protectors of our natural and cultural heritage, emphasizing the urgent need to enhance youth engagement in land stewardship activities.

Position Responsibilities will include :

Empower youth with skills in media arts and interpretation to uncover the untold stories of American History within National Parks, with a particular focus on Civil Rights.

Serve as a mentor and teacher for the youth, facilitate administrative needs, and generally support the program.

Prompt critical reflection on the narratives presented within The White House and President’s Park and other National Parks.

Engage youth in bringing alive the voices of underrepresented communities through an exhibit at the White House Visitor Center and online platforms.

Use media arts as a method to foster youth and visitor awareness of National Park Service untold stories.

Expose youth to the array of National Parks in and outside the National Capital Region.

Teach youth about the mission of the National Park Service.

Applicant Requirements :

A bility to quickly adapt and handle multiple projects at once.

High School Diploma.

Must be a U.S. citizen or a lawful permanent resident.

Age requirement : 18-30 years old, 35 for veterans.

Ready and able to dedicate a year to full-time work.

Open to working weekends and irregular hours.

Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to operate a 15-passenger van.

Must be able to pass a Federal Background Check if selected.

Possess a positive attitude and the ability to handle pressure.

Support the National Park Service's mission and its youth and volunteer programs.

Eager to assist youth, volunteers, and interns from various backgrounds with courtesy, professionalism, patience, and respect.

Excellent communication skills and proficiency in the English language.

Preferred Qualifications :

Experience in collaborating with diverse groups from various backgrounds.

Proficient in computer skills, including Microsoft Teams, Google Slides, Excel spreadsheets, and PowerPoint.

Comfortable with various Social Media Platforms.

Skilled in editing software such as Adobe, Lightroom, and Photoshop. Experienced in public speaking to medium and large audiences.

Demonstrates excellent time management and professionalism.

Capable of working with youth, including middle and high school students.

Benefits :

Position is eligible for an AmeriCorps education award upon successful completion of the program. Value of education award is $ 7,395.00 (pre-tax).

Living Allowance : $640 / week (pre-tax).

Additional Benefit : $200 / week for housing, healthcare, transportation, and / or other service-related expenses.

The individual placement overseeing this program will gain leadership and management skills as well as insight into the multi-faceted career paths the NPS has to offer.

Additionally, they will develop knowledge regarding volunteer communication, volunteer training, and effective project facilitation.
