This position is an on-campus, full-time, 175-day, tenure-track appointment based in Champaign, Illinois covered by the Parkland Academic Employees (PAE) collective bargaining unit. Starting salary for 12 months between $48,200.96 - 73,004.53 dependent on certifications, years of teaching experience, and education received.

Tenure-Track Faculty teach a full-time load as per the Parkland Academic Employees (PAE) bargaining agreement. They advise and mentor students and participate in governance of their departments and the college. Areas of instruction will include general education communication courses covering a broad range of theory and application including but not limited to public speaking, and in addition, at least one other area of expertise such as media or mass communication, advertising / public relations, interpersonal communication or news and broadcast writing.

Essential Job Functions :

Ability to teach courses in multiple modalities including in person, hybrid, and online.

Participate in college, departmental, community, and program activities and work collaboratively with colleagues in the department and across disciplines.

Have a commitment to assisting in the assessment, growth and success of the communication program.

Perform professional duties in accordance with the established policies and procedures of the college.

Provide classroom instruction in accordance with the stated philosophy, objectives, and established course outlines of the college.

Inform students of course regulations, evaluation procedures, and other information pertinent to the course; prepare a course syllabus for each course and distribute it early each term.

Is available for student advising / mentoring.

Maintain regular office hours to ensure availability for student consultation; provide assistance to students in a timely manner.

Maintain accurate scholastic records of students; submits required reports on student progress according to published deadlines.

Participate in college-wide shared governance, including Parkland College Association (PCA) Senate, its committees, administrative committees, and accreditation committees.

Participate in student recruitment and retention efforts.

Perform other duties as assigned by the department chair.

Minimum Requirements :

Master's Degree in Communication, Communication Studies, Media or Mass Communication, or a Communication related field with at least 18 graduate credit hours of communication coursework.

At least two (2) years of previous college teaching experience and a demonstrated ability and strong commitment to teaching and learning at a comprehensive community college serving a broad student population.

Experience with technology that supports teaching communication in both the classroom and in an online environment.

Ability to learn the Parkland information system and new programs as technology changes.

Prospective new hires will successfully complete a post offer, pre-employment criminal background check with fingerprinting. The background check review includes, but is not limited to, exclusionary offenses per the Illinois School Code and Title IV of the Higher Education Act.
