Registered Nurse (RN) - Heart Center Overflow

Position SummaryUnder general supervision, the Registered Nurse demonstrates thorough knowledge of therapeutic patient care, patient advocacy, clinical pathways / care maps, team dynamics, hospital systems, and serves as a resource for the registered nurse and support staff.

Collaborates with leadership in developing and implementing the Spartanburg Medical Center culture, Vision, Mission and goals.

Unit DescriptionWhat we are : Heart Center Overflow (HCOF) is an 8-bed unit specializing in the care of cardiac patients with an emphasis on Cardiac post-procedure patients.

It is part of the Cardiovascular Division at Spartanburg Medical Center (SMC). Staffing is comprised of RNs and CCAs (cardiac care associates).

What we do : Our primary focus is cardiac post-procedure patients which include but are not limited to patients having a cardiac catherization with and without interventions, ablations, transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), watchman, mitral clips, pacemaker, and defibrillator.

The majority of patients on Heart Center Overflow will be coming from the Cath Lab, but this unit will also function as an overflow unit for 4 Heart and 5 Heart, which are two of the stepdown units in the Heart Center.

The unit will be a fast-paced unit with high patient turnover to improve hospital throughput. The unit will operate opening on Monday and closing on Friday.

There may be rare occasions it will be a necessity to run on Saturday. The unit will be staffed with 2 Registered nurses and a cardiac care associate (CCA) on Night Shift, and Days will be staffed with 3 Registered nurses.

whose role will be multidimensional to include bedside care, performing phlebotomy, unit ambassador and identifying cardiac rhythms and performing EKGs.

Nurse to patient ratio on Heart Center Overflow : On day shift there will be one charge RN with 2 : 1 nurse to patient ratio, and and the other 3 RNs will be 3 : 1 nurse to patient ratio.

Due to the specialized nature of care provided in this unit, staffing is comprised of only seasoned RNs. This unit works in conjunction with all the other units within the Heart Center.

Our unit leadership : Heart Center Overflow's nurse manager has been a nurse for 26 years, all of which has been on 4 Heart at SMC.

She has almost 23 years of leadership experience on this unit.Minimum RequirementsEducation* Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

License / Registration / Certifications* Current R.N. licensure in the state of South Carolina* BLS, ACLS, PALS / ENPCPreferred RequirementsPreferred Education* BSNPreferred Experience* Preferred experience includes a background in one or more of the following : Cath lab, cardiac, telemetry, critical care, interventional radiology, med / surg.

Core Job Responsibilities* Collaborates with patients, families, and other members of the health care team to determine patient priorities and treatments* Initiates and facilitates interdisciplinary collaboration to enhance outcome* Seeks necessary assistance in completing nursing interventions to assure positive patient outcomes* Participates in hourly rounding and bedside shift report* Responsible for demonstrating competency for all new equipment and procedures.

• Assures continuity of care through effective decision making resulting in quality patient care* Documents all aspects of patient care by following established charting procedure to show the patient's progress or any change in the patient's condition* Other Duties as assigned
