Teaching Assistant Professor
The Department of Geography & Environment at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is seeking a full-time in Spatial Data Science.
This is a permanent fixed-term position. The position will have an initial appointment of 3 years with the possibility of reappointment.
We seek a faculty member who can teach courses in Spatial Data Science, which might include courses in Spatial Data Science, GeoAI / ML, Quantitative Methods, Cartography, GIS, Remote, Sending, and Digital Image Processing, in accordance with the instructor’s areas of expertise.
The successful applicant will teach three courses per semester (9 credit hours) to primarily undergraduate students for a total of 6 courses per academic year.
All courses will be taught live and in person. The courses taught by the candidate can include a mix of introductory and advanced ones.
Advanced courses may be in a range of thematic areas that match the instructor’s expertise. Existing course syllabi and class plans will be available for some courses.
Teaching assistants will be available to support large-format courses. The instructor will have the opportunity to engage in department and university life by attending department events, workshops, and colloquia, as well as serving on various committees.
The candidate is expected to dedicate % of their time to teaching and % of their effort to services. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements in Geography or similar science, with an emphasis on Spatial Data Science.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience Prior teaching experience in the field is preferred, as are candidates who have published in the field.
