The Executive Administrator for the Department of Orthopaedics within Emory University’s School of Medicine leads, plans, coordinates, and is accountable for major administrative and clinical activities including clinical operations, grants and contracts, budget planning, financial analysis, data processing operations, and human resources management for the Department of Orthopaedics and associated divisions with direct supervision of Division Administrators and other key leadership roles.

This position will have responsibility for clinical, education, and research missions for the department across all health system partners and other affiliates, including but not limited to overall budget and human resource responsibilities.

Responsible for leading, mentoring, developing and preparing leaders for outstanding performance and progression as appropriate.

Administers organizational policies and procedures within the department with associated decision-making responsibility on complex, precedent setting situations in collaboration with the Department Chair and institutional leadership.

Works with other Center leads and the Division Directors within the department to develop, administer and monitor the capital equipment, operations, and personnel budgets.

Develops plans to ensure that department budget planning and achievement in in alignment with institutional goals and methodologies.

Works with Department Chair, Division Directors and Division Administrators establish goals and objectives for the department(s);

monitors progress towards their achievement. Provides dotted-line and daily operational leadership to the Director of Patient Care Practice, who reports directly to the CNO.

Leadership over financial and compliance matters for department’s research and education missions. Develops and implements various clinical and administrative programs to enhance employees' skills and to improve the effectiveness of existing clinical services.

Develops new programs to ensure the growth of the department and meet the changing demands for new services. Acts as a liaison between department leadership and institutional constituents across all missions.

The Vice President of Emory Healthcare (EHC) Musculoskeletal Service Line plays a pivotal role in offering comprehensive leadership to service line operations, performance enhancement, capital management, and strategic planning across all locations within the healthcare system.

By promoting collaboration among clinical departments and affiliated services, the VP ensures a seamless, integrated approach to delivering care that aligns with EHC's clinical, research, and educational objectives.

Acting as a proficient link between business leaders, the entity, health system executives, and service line departments, the VP fosters effective communication.

The VP aligns clinical and business functions to facilitate the core operations of the service line, fostering a harmonious integration of clinical expertise and business strategies.

Leads engagement with administrative and operations leaders within the entities to standardize practices, devise programs for enhancing competency, optimize workforce utilization, and achieve benchmark goals.

Establishes standards and administers organizational policies and procedures within the administrative infrastructure. Serves as a content expert and internal consultant to service line and OU leadership on administrative operations.

Embraces operational excellence and the effectively deploys process improvement tools to achieve strategies and initiatives.

Leads initiatives for process improvement to ensure the efficient and effective operations that deliver high-quality patient care.

Facilitates the development of a culture of collaboration and excellence in quality, service, standardization, and performance accountability across all inter-professional care teams.

Provides leadership and strategic direction for the service line, including the continued integration of signature programs across EHC and affiliated outreach parties.

Works closely with service line and OU leadership to develop the vision and strategic priorities for the service line. Collaborates with service line leadership and strategic planning to perform strategic market assessments and the development growth-related programming and related strategies.

Engages key internal stakeholders (physicians and OU leaders) in a systematic approach to service line and interdependent product line planning processes, which prioritizes strengths and opportunities across the service line, with a goal of system integration and advancement.

Responsible for the strategic implementation of service line strategies. Partners with leaders throughout EHC to drive existing and new initiatives, programs, and services.

Drives the development of innovative business strategies aimed at augmenting market share and overall performance. In partnership with dyad partner, site leads and EHC leaders, supports operational activities including budget planning, financial analysis, and Shared Services to ensure the service line operates consistently, efficiently, effectively, and sustainably across the system.

Ensures consistency in defining fiscal needs of service line, reviewing budgetary proposals (both capital and operating) with executive leaders.

Monitors, validates, and reconciles budget allocations in coordination with entity leadership.

Works with designated leadership to develop, prioritize, administer and monitor the capital equipment, operations, and personnel budgets for the designated EHC budgets.

Collaborates with service line leadership to develop, implement and monitor performance on impactful key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess resource utilization effectiveness and adherence to quality benchmarks within the service line.

Analyzes and leverages information to inform management decisions, maintaining transparent communication regarding the ongoing status of the service line.

Disseminates vital information to stakeholders concerning managed care, market requirements, cost-effective practices, and customer-centric initiatives and services.

Develops and implements formal training and development programs for administrative and support staff. Effectively manages employee performance and provides feedback on an on-going basis, both directly and indirectly.

Provides support to designated EHC committees to facilitate collaborative decision-making and strategy formulation. Ensures all organizational activities are carried out in compliance with local, state, federal and governmental regulations.

Ensures required / regulatory record-keeping is maintained.

JOB DESCRIPTION :

  • Plans, coordinates, and is accountable for major administrative and clinical activities including grants and contracts, budget planning, financial analysis, data processing operations, and human resources management for multiple departments or large divisions with direct supervision of Senior Administrators and other key leadership roles.
  • Has responsibility for a specific service line, health system affiliation, and / or academic oversight, including overall budget responsibility.
  • Administers organizational policies and procedures within the department, holding final decision-making responsibility on complex, precedent setting situations in collaboration with the Department Chair.
  • Works with Department Chairs within the service line to develop, administer and monitor the capital equipment, operations, and personnel budgets.
  • Develops plans to ensure that generated clinical revenues increase each year while limiting expenses.
  • Works with Department Chairs to establish goals and objectives for the department(s); monitors progress towards their achievement.
  • Develops and implements various clinical and administrative programs to enhance employees' skills and to improve the effectiveness of existing clinical services.
  • Develops new programs to ensure the growth of the department and meet the changing demands for new services.
  • Acts as a liaison between management and other schools / departments concerning clinical activities and issues. Ensures required record-keeping is maintained.
  • Develops and implements formal training and development programs for staff.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Master's degree, preferably in business, finance, or related science field, and 10 years of professional business or management experience which includes experience in a clinical or healthcare environment, OR an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
  • Previous supervisory experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

Experience serving in a department administrator role in a major academic medical center OR a large orthopaedic practice.

NOTE : Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location. Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion.
