The pay range listed above reflects the full pay range for this position. Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification.

As one of the fastest-growing counties in the country, Maricopa County Animal Care & Control (MCACC) has become one of the largest open-admission municipal shelters in the nation.

We currently operate at above a 90% save rate and embrace Fear Free values to ensure the physical and emotional health and wellness of the animals in our care.

Because MCACC is a public shelter, our veterinarians are able to focus on their passion for animals and maintain a work-life balance with our 4-day work week.

Maricopa County is excited to offer Veterinarians a hiring incentive!

Please see the details below :

Sign-On Incentive : Participating in Loan Repayment : $7,500 After 3 months and at 1 year. Not Participating in Loan Repayment : $12,500 After 3 months and at 1 year.

Repayment : Employees who received a sign-on incentive and voluntarily separate from County employment must repay all sign-on incentives received during the last 12 months prior to their separation.

Student loan repayment programs like the Licensed Professional Loan Repayment Program up to $6,250 per quarter ($100,000 maximum total benefit) and the Federal Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program

We Require

Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine

Other Requirements

Valid Arizona Veterinarian license, upon hire

Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record by the time of hire

Drug Enforcement Agency Certification

We Also Value

Experience as a veterinarian at a spay / neuter clinic or animal shelter

Experience in shelter medicine

Experience using Chameleon software

Job Contributions

Examine impounded, in-house, and fostered shelter animals to perform diagnostics, create treatment plans, prescribe therapeutics, and determine appropriate disposition for incoming animals

Execute spay / neuter surgeries, perform dental extractions, read and interpret radiograph studies, and perform non-witnessed, owner-requested euthanasia

Evaluate animals for release from bite quarantine

Monitor, dispense, and log, controlled substances and maintain medical records.

Participate in biweekly onsite vaccination clinics

Provide training to clinic, shelter, and field staff members

Deliver exceptional customer service to internal and external clients

Working Conditions

Fast-paced animal shelter environment with exposure to extreme and varying temperatures, dogs and cats with unknown temperaments and behaviors, excessive noise, animal waste, and fluids, deceased animals, cleaning chemicals, and zoonotic diseases

Ability to lift, bend, stoop, stand, and walk on various surfaces, including slippery, uneven, and rough

Ability to exert 50-100 lbs. occasionally, 10-25 lbs. frequently, and 10-20 lbs. constantly
