Postdoctoral Fellow - Henry Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine
HJF is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow responsible for initiating and carrying out research projects in collaboration with a research team.
This position supports neuroscience research activities in the Department of Anatomy, Physiology & Genetics. The position is in the McCabe Lab at Uniformed Services University, focusing on preclinical modeling of traumatic brain injury in mice.
The position is supported by a Department of Defense project to examine the role of neurotransmitter systems (particularly monoamine systems and the acetylcholinergic system) after traumatic brain injury in conjunction with neurodegenerative disease.
Additionally, the project employs a candidate compound that may ameliorate symptoms from TBI and aging.

Responsibilities
- Assists in designing, developing, executing, and implementing scientific research and / or development.
- Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and theories to potential inventions and products.
- Performs specialized laboratory research utilizing experimental protocols which involve specialized procedures.
- Collects and handles samples and keeps detailed records of experiments.
- Assists with the preparation of data for presentations at scientific meetings and for publication in journals.
- May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor, including attendance of and participation in required training for the role.
Qualifications
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Experience studying rodent testing, including drug administration, brain histology, and behavior testing and software.
- Knowledge of appropriate scientific area.
- Ability to analyze and interpret data.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a T1 / Public Trust background check.
Physical Capabilities
- Lifting : Requires lifting materials up to 10 lbs.
- Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.
- This position will take place primarily in a laboratory setting.
Education and Experience
Minimum of 0-5 years’ experience required.
Some positions or sites may require that the incumbent be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Proof of vaccination may be required.
