Overview

As a Environmental Scientist / Engineer for Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc. (CEC) at our Pittsburgh Corporate office, you'll be directly involved with environmental compliance monitoring and assessment projects.

Your primary responsibility will be completing field activities, including : assisting with and leading field sampling activities.

You will also assist with reporting activities, including managing and interpreting environmental data, and developing reports.

Role and responsibilities :

Preparing environmental data tables, maps, figures, and reports to interpret results and make recommendations for further action.

  • Preparing engineering calculations, completing application forms, and compiling permit applications for new and expanding industrial, energy, and other commercial enterprises.
  • Contributing to the preparation of environmental regulatory reports and plans.
  • Collect, analyze, and prepare raw data into workable form for engineering / scientific project reports, plans, specifications, permits, cost estimates, and other project documents.
  • Participate in field work as necessary / required to accomplish tasks assigned by the project team leadership.
  • Help to coordinate assigned tasks with staff and successfully complete discreet tasks as assigned on projects. Report progress to team leadership.
  • Maintain and utilize working knowledge of accepted engineering design, scientific principles, regulatory programs, and field standards and practices in the execution of design work as directed by a supervisor and in conformance with industry standards.
  • Provide input and assistance in investigating new techniques and methods that may increase the Company's efficiency and incorporate cutting edge applications to arrive at the desired result on projects.

Qualifications

  • The qualified candidate will have approximately 0 - 5 years of professional experience;
  • BS Degree (MS not required, but preferred) in Environmental Science or Engineering, Chemistry (or equivalent);
  • Valid driver's license;
  • Basic technical competency, and demonstrated skills in engineering / scientific judgment, and mathematical-applications;
  • Ability to work effectively with team members as well as independently;
  • Strong quantitative / math and analytical skills;
  • The ability to participate in field work;
  • Core competency in Microsoft Office Products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook;
  • Detail-oriented with excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • As required by discipline, willingness to take training courses / secure certifications in various specialized areas such as health and safety, hazardous materials inspection, sample collection techniques, environmental site assessments, etc.; and
  • Current 40-hour Hazwoper training (not required, but preferred).

Here's What We'd Like To See :

  • Experience with technical writing;
  • Experience with EPCRA reporting, PPC / SPCC Plans, RCRA, CAA, CWA, and TSCA;
  • Experience with sustainability reporting or ESG programs;
  • Strong chemistry background;
  • Client-focused service orientation.
