Excel Engineering, Inc. is seeking a team-oriented, highly motivated individual for a full-time Engineering Project Manager.
This is for our power utility client in Denver, CO.

We offer full-service Electrical & Controls System Engineering Consulting services. We operate in the US and abroad.
This position is on the strategic capital side, managing large complex projects in the renewables space such as installing new, large equipment or systems that help our client meet their future strategic goals.
- Once projects are approved, the individual will be responsible for verifying the justification and continued scoping of the project to ensure that all stakeholders’ needs are included in the project scope, determining if consulting engineers need to be hired for the projects, and ordering material and equipment needed to execute the work.
- Responsible for managing budget, quality, safety, and schedule, overseeing all aspects of a project from cradle to grave, and periodically inspecting work in the field.
- An existing full-time field construction management group assists in overseeing these projects as spot checks, ensuring that tasks are completed on schedule.
This includes interacting with plant operations to meet their needs, working with our design group to ensure drawings are properly documented, and performing shop inspections if needed for equipment destined for the site.
- Ensure contract requirements are followed by both engineering firms and contractors through the project closeout and turnover to the operations group.
- Note : The client has a planning group for major strategic projects that plans and develops those projects and turns them over to execution.
Most of the work is already done, and the candidate is responsible for managing all documentation paperwork, contract management, and executing that work.
Requirements
- Engineering degree in civil, electrical, chemical, or mechanical disciplines.
- Chemical / mechanical experience is required.
- 5-7 years of experience in the above disciplines is required.
- At least 2 years of experience managing projects.
- FEIT certification.
- PE license is a plus and would be expected for long-term consideration toward an FTE.
- Some utility experience; oil and gas experience is a plus.
- PMP certification would be a plus.
- Must have a valid driver's license and dependable transportation.
- Leadership experience and experience leading large teams, building morale, etc.
- Cross-functional team experience within a large matrixed organization is a plus!
