Expected Hiring Range : $41,144-43,202 . Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications. A starting salary above the range listed may be considered for highly qualified individuals not to exceed the maximum of the grade.

Examples of Duties

• Operate heavy equipment including but not limited to backhoes, forklifts, loaders, mowers, tractors, and dump trucks to perform a variety of tasks related to street maintenance and repair.
• Perform routine maintenance on equipment to ensure optimal functionality and safety.
• Execute street maintenance tasks such as repairing curbs, gutters, driveways, and sidewalks, as well as street patching and asphalt laying.
• Clear roadsides and other city properties by cutting brush, raking, and sweeping to enhance safety and aesthetics.
• Respond to emergency situations such as tree removal, ice and snow removal, and street repairs in adverse weather conditions.
• Adhere to departmental rules and policies to ensure compliance with safety regulations and procedures.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated ability to operate a variety of heavy equipment and perform physical tasks in various weather conditions.
• Knowledge of automotive and mechanical equipment operation is desirable.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow safety procedures.

Minimum Qualifications :

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• At least 1 year of work experience in equipment operation and maintenance.
• Valid NC Class C Driver’s License.

Special Requirements :

Valid Commercial Driver’s License (Class B CDL) or obtain within six months.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions :

Work in this class is described as medium and frequently requires physical exertion to complete tasks and move objects.

This employee must have the visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of work assigned.

Work typically involves the ability to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, and repetitive motions.

The worker is required to have the visual acuity to be the operator of trucks, forklifts, cranes and other equipment.

Employee is subject to hazards, including mechanical equipment, electrical current, noise and vibration and atmospheric conditions due to exposure to fumes, odors, and dusts.

Working conditions include both inside and outside environmental conditions.
