The Department of Pediatrics in the Division of Pediatric Neurology is seeking an MD / PhD or PhD for a post-doctoral fellowship in the laboratory of Dr.
Hiroki Nariai. Applicants need to have expertise in the fields of neuroscience, computer science, translational health sciences or a related field.
The laboratory of Dr. Hiroki Nariai focuses on the mechanisms and treatment of pediatric epilepsy. Specifically, his research work investigates neurophysiological biomarkers of epilepsy recorded via invasive and non-invasive electroencephalogram (EEG) recording, using computational and machine learning approaches.
The ultimate goal is to identify neurobiological surrogates of epileptic brains and utilize them in the diagnosis and treatment of children with epilepsy.
The lab has successfully established methods of recording high-sampling EEG data from children, and analytic pipelines for potential biomarkers including high-frequency oscillations (HFOs), cross-frequency coupling, and network analysis.
Dr. Nariai has an excellent track record of productive research mentorship for graduate students, research / medical fellows, and post-doctoral fellows over the last several years.
Qualifications :
- MD / PhD or PhD in the fields of neuroscience, computer science, or translational health sciences
- Solid understanding of common neuronal signal processing approaches
- Ability to work simultaneously on multiple projects and quickly adapt to new tasks
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work with collaborators (such as radiology / engineering)
- Ability to work independently
Skills :
- Coding in MATLAB and Python, including deep learning analysis
- Experience in handling EEG data
- Experience in statistics / bioinformatic analyses
- Ability to maintain laboratory notebook and archive data in an organized manner
Duties :
- Independently conduct research as determined by Principal Investigator
- Writing of scientific manuscripts, abstracts, and other supporting documentation
- Participate in laboratory meetings, educational sessions, and specific safety training sessions
- Provide mentorship to other members of the lab and collaborators (such as graduate students)
Salary Range : The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See Table 23 https : / / www.

The salary range for this position is $66,737 - $80,034.
