The Senior Medical Technologist, Cellular Therapy is responsible for performing and recording a broad range of more complex laboratory testing, in conjunction with additional complex duties of the department at Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC).
Responsibilities
A day in the life of a Senior Medical Technologist, Cellular Therapy at Hackensack Meridian Health includes :
- Performs all routine and complex procedures and testing of Cellular Therapy products in a timely and accurate manner.
- Performs routine and complex maintenance on all instruments.
- Works with the department head / supervisor in preparing for government and accreditation agencies inspections.
- Interacts with inspectors during inspections to answer technical questions.
- Performs comparison trials, final analysis, and validation of procedures, equipment, and testing.
- Prepares and updates documents and SOP's needed for inspections by government and accreditation agencies.
- Works with the department head / supervisor to document competencies.
- Works with the department head / supervisor to process proficiency testing materials.
- Perform all quality control (QC) as applicable.
- Documents all quality control (QC) procedures performed and corrective action when QC is out of range.
- Performs advanced troubleshooting of instruments.
- Trains and supervises new employees.
- Maintains complete and accurate records.
- Ensures complete and accurate documentation, calculations, and results reporting.
- Review incoming orders and documentation to ensure proper handling and processing of cellular therapy products.
- Communicate, coordinate, and manage Cellular Therapy products receipt and distribution according to departmental guidelines.
- Calibrates and standardizes instruments according to departmental guidelines.
- Receives and maintains supplies and reagents according to the department's inventory management system. Performs Inventory control and ordering as needed.
- Performs all system functions necessary to achieve the timely reporting of results.
- Other duties and / or projects as assigned.
- Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Qualifications
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required :
- Bachelor's degree in a related area or related cell therapy manufacturing experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of clinical laboratory experience.
- Works with some degree of latitude.
- Solid working knowledge of subject matter.
- Handles moderately complex issues and problems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient computer skills that may include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and / or Google Suite platforms.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred :
- Previous hospital experience.
- Previous cellular therapy and / or blood bank experience.
Licenses and Certifications Required :
American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent eligible.
Licenses and Certifications Preferred :
- Certified as Medical Technologist (ASCP), Clinical Laboratory Scientist (NCA), Clinical Laboratory Technologists (HEW) or equivalent.
- Certified Advanced Biotherapies Professional (CABP).
