Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) seeks a strategic financial leader to serve as Chief Financial and Administrative Officer (CFAO) .

The CFAO will play a critical role in the success of all aspects of HFHI’s important work, particularly as the organization expands into new lines of business.

The CFAO is responsible for overseeing all aspects of finance, audit, IT, investments, legal, safeguarding, and safety and security, ensuring organizational growth and sustainability, and providing strategic operational, financial, and risk management guidance to support Habitat’s mission and goals.

Importantly, the CFAO also serves on the Board of MicroBuild, HFHI’s housing-focused microfinance investment vehicle, and will lead efforts to secure funding for the enterprise.

Serving as a pivotal member of Habitat’s senior leadership team, the CFAO will work closely with the Board and other members of the senior team to provide strategic guidance and financial oversight to Habitat for Humanity International and its affiliates.

This executive will collaborate regularly across functions and geographies and should be comfortable working in a highly complex environment.

The CFAO will manage and foster a high-performing, cross-functional team ( 250 staff), setting the tone at the top and leading with purpose and through example.

This position is preferably based in Atlanta, GA, however other US locations may be considered.

Key Responsibilities :

Financial Strategy and Planning :

  • Develop and implement financial strategies that align with Habitat’s mission and strategic goals.
  • Provide financial analysis, forecasting, and reporting to support decision-making by the CEO, Board of Directors, and senior management.
  • Lead the annual budgeting process, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and resource allocation.

Financial Management and Operations :

  • Oversee all group financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, pricing, financial reporting, and compliance.
  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial records and reports, adhering to regulatory requirements and best practices.
  • Manage cash flow, investments, and financial risk to maintain the financial health of the organization.
  • Oversee the preparation and presentation of financial statements and reports to the Board, Audit, Finance, and Governance Committees, and other stakeholders.
  • Oversight of Habitat’s investment portfolio, including investment policy formulation, selection, and oversight of outside investment management firms.
  • Serve on the Board of the MicroBuild Fund, providing oversight and working to raise capital.

Information Technology and Facilities :

  • Manage systems and processes to best serve the needs of the organization and its constituents.
  • Lead IT department to ensure secure technology operations are safe with the highest regard for data privacy and security.
  • Oversee management of Habitat’s real estate assets, including its headquarters; drive major capital projects and real estate transactions.

Governance, Legal Oversight and Compliance :

  • Ensure compliance with all financial, legal, and regulatory requirements, including audits and tax filings.
  • Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard the organization’s assets.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with external auditors, regulators, and financial institutions.

Leadership and Team Management :

  • Lead and develop the finance, IT, legal, investment, safeguarding, and safety and security teams, fostering a customer-oriented culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Establish and monitor staff performance and development goals, assign accountabilities, set objectives, establish priorities, conduct annual performance appraisals, and administer salary adjustments.
  • Mentor and develop staff using a supportive and collaborative approach : assign accountabilities; set objectives; establish priorities;

and monitor and evaluate results.

Collaborate with senior leadership to drive organizational effectiveness and operational excellence.

Stakeholder Engagement :

  • Act as the principal advisor to the CEO, Board, and Audit, Finance, and Governance committees on financial matters.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including affiliates, donors, partners, and financial institutions.

Pivotal Experience and Expertise :

Operational and Financial Expertise : Broad expertise in operations and finance at scale, with strength in operational strategy and a proven track record of driving financial stability and growth.

Experience leading a broad set of functions, such as finance, IT, legal, investments, etc. Experience innovating and managing multiple, complex business lines.

Experience with mortgage financing and financial structuring is a plus.

The actual salary offered for this role will be based on a variety of factors, including location, internal equity and the candidate’s qualifications and professional experience.

HFHI offers a competitive, comprehensive benefits package that varies by country and typically includes vacation leave, sick leave, personal days, health insurance options, retirement plan contributions and life insurance.

For work locations in the US, the hiring range for this position is $255,000 to $300,000.
