Summary
Virginia Commonwealth University's Division of Plastic andReconstructive Surgery is expanding its research lab to encompass basicscience, clinical research, translational science, and device development.
Ourlab is dedicated to investigating skin biology, skin conditions such as keloidsand hypertrophic scars, burn physiology, and the regeneration of skin and softtissues.
We are currently seeking a highly motivated and skilled postdoctoral scholar to join our dynamic team. The successfulcandidate will play a crucial role in supporting ongoing research initiativesin the field of plastic and reconstructive surgery.
This position willprimarily involve laboratory work geared towards advancing these goals,including the utilization of cellular models, sequencing patient and animalsamples, and analyzing therapeutic compounds.
Additionally, the role willentail conducting small and large animal experiments under appropriate guidanceto further basic science and therapeutic developments, with the ultimateobjective of translating bench research into clinical applications.
Collaboration with plastic surgery facultymembers is central to this position, encompassing all aspects of research fromproject development and securing IRB / IACUC approval to executing experiments,facilitating weekly meetings, and ensuring the smooth functioning of thelaboratory.
The fellow will also be expected to draft grant proposals underfaculty guidance, fostering the development of independent research skills andfostering collaboration across various disciplines and faculties.
Thisopportunity will enable the fellow to evolve into an independent researcher capableof making significant contributions to the field.
Required Education & Experience
- PhD in a related field
- Experience working with animals (rodents and swine)
- Experiencewith cellular models, processing samples, sequencing, animal models, heartfunction and muscle physiology
- Experiencein wet lab techniques (histological and molecular analysis)
- Ability toindependently manage multiple projects
- Basic understanding of and proficiency with biostatistics
- Excellent verbal andwritten communication skills
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff,and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
Preferred Education & Experience
Experience in biomedical engineering and / or with the design of medical devices isa plus
