Assistant Director AODHRI
Position Focus :
Reporting to the Director of the Office of Gender & Campus Culture (OGCC) and the Alcohol and Other Drugs Harm Reduction Initiative (AODHRI), the Assistant Director for AODHRI is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of AODHRI and assisting with the day-to-day operations of OGCC.
In collaboration with AODHRI Director, develop a strategic plan for AODHRI.
Make recommendations for harm reduction programming in compliance with federal and state law and university policy, and based on best practices in public health, psychology, and behavior-change literatures.
Conduct and interpret needs assessments of undergraduates to determine priorities for alcohol & other drug interventions.
Serve as a member of an interdisciplinary AODHRI team, including representatives from the Yale College Dean’s Office, YC3, and Yale Health.
Support the interdisciplinary team in creating a multi-tiered system of support for undergraduate students, including universal, targeted, and intensive interventions.
Create, implement, and evaluate substance use education and harm reduction programming for undergraduates. Develop both universal and targeted programs based on needs assessment.
Manage the day-to-day operations of AODHRI, including assisting with the supervision of Student Affairs Fellows, Graduate Assistants, and peer educators.
As a member of two interlocking offices (AODHRI and the Office of Gender & Campus Culture), collaborate with Director and AD for OGCC to support the day-to-day operations of OGCC.
Support the planning and implementation of large-scale events hosted by Yale College, including Spring Fling and class-year dances.
OGCC and AODHRI are both part of the Yale College Dean’s Office, working to strengthen the undergraduate campus community though a series of programs and initiatives designed to improve the sexual and social culture, prevent sexual misconduct, and reduce the harms caused by alcohol and other drugs.
The AD works closely with other members of the offices the Director, the AD for OGCC, the Student Affairs Fellows, the Communication and Consent Educators and other undergraduate and graduate student staff as well as with other colleagues and students from across the University to prompt positive culture change.
Because this is a new position in our office, the AD for AODHRI will work to build out the role. Therefore, this job description may adjust as AODHRI evolves.
Essential Duties
1. Manages and leads research on various federal rules and regulations as well as University policies and procedures to resolve problems and determine the best course of action for the functional area.
2. Recommends course of action to higher authority for the handling and disposition of problems related to the functional area.
3. Counsels faculty, students and staff on issues related to administrative operations of the University function and areas of concern for the function.
4. Manages statistical and analytical information regarding office activities and areas of operational and administrative concern for the function.
5. Leads in long-range planning for the office activities of a specific functional area. 6. Interprets and administers various University and federal policies and regulations.
7. Disseminates accurate and up-to-date information regarding areas of concern. 8. Formulates and establishes policies regarding area’s function.
9. Manages a staff of exempt and non-exempt employees. 10. May perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
Minimum requirement of Bachelor’s Degree in related field and three years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
