- Contract : 13 weeks.*

- Pay rate : $81 / hr.*

Roles and Responsibilities
1. Patient Assessment and Monitoring
- Continuous Monitoring : Track vital signs of both mother and baby, including heart rate, blood pressure, and contractions.
- Fetal Monitoring : Use electronic fetal monitoring to assess the baby’s heart rate and detect any signs of distress.
- Labor Progress : Assess the progress of labor by monitoring cervical dilation, effacement, and fetal position.
2. Labor Support
- Pain Management : Administer pain relief methods, including medications, epidurals, and non-pharmacological interventions like breathing techniques or hydrotherapy.
- Emotional Support : Provide reassurance and emotional support to the laboring mother and her family, helping them cope with the stresses of labor.
- Education : Educate the patient about labor processes, pain relief options, and what to expect during delivery.
3. Delivery Assistance
- Preparation : Prepare the delivery room, including setting up sterile equipment and ensuring all necessary supplies are available.
- Assisting in Delivery : Assist the obstetrician or midwife during the delivery, including guiding the baby’s descent and assisting with episiotomies or other interventions if needed.
- Immediate Newborn Care : Provide initial care to the newborn, including clearing the airway, assessing Apgar scores, and initiating skin-to-skin contact with the mother.
4. Postpartum Care
- Monitoring : Monitor the mother’s recovery post-delivery, including checking for bleeding, uterine contraction, and any signs of complications.
- Newborn Care : Assist with newborn care routines, such as bathing, feeding, and ensuring safe sleep practices.
- Education : Educate the mother on postpartum care, including managing physical recovery, recognizing signs of complications, and newborn care basics.
5. Documentation and Communication
- Record Keeping : Accurately document all aspects of labor and delivery, including maternal and fetal assessments, interventions, and patient responses.
- Communication : Communicate effectively with the healthcare team, including obstetricians, midwives, anesthesiologists, and other support staff, to ensure coordinated care.
6. Emergency Response
- Crisis Management : Be prepared to respond to obstetric emergencies such as fetal distress, postpartum hemorrhage, or complications requiring immediate intervention.
- Advanced Procedures : In some cases, assist with or perform advanced procedures under the direction of a physician or midwife.
7. Infection Control
- Sterilization : Ensure that all procedures are carried out using sterile techniques to prevent infections.
- Hygiene Practices : Follow proper hand hygiene and other infection control practices to safeguard both patients and staff.
8. Advocacy and Support
- Patient Advocacy : Advocate for the patient's preferences and needs, ensuring that their birth plan and personal choices are respected within the constraints of medical safety.
- Support Services : Provide referrals to lactation consultants, social workers, or other support services as needed.
Qualifications
- RN License
- Fetal Heart Monitoring Certification
- NRP Certification
- BLS Certification
- ACLS Certification
- Experience in care plans and patient monitoring
- Proficiency in Phlebotomy and IV insertion
- Ability to observe and assess patients effectively
