Job Description

The Controller assists the Director in charge of Finance in maintaining the organization's system of internal controls, processes bi-weekly payroll together with quarterly and annual payroll reporting in coordination with a service organization, monthly accounting, general ledger reconciliation and financial reporting.

The Controller shall ensure adherence to all Company principles, policies and procedures regarding accounting and reporting.

This requires active communication and collaboration with the Director in charge of Finance, the Chief Executive Officer, and fellow team members that support the payroll, monthly accounting responsibilities, and year-end corporate tax reporting.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage the bi-weekly payroll, and quarterly and annual payroll related filings
  • Ensure the integrity of financial balances and high quality Period End Close (PEC) output via correct controlling / systems setup, regular data reconciliation and standardized allocation / distribution activities for the Balance Sheet and Income Statement.
  • Ensure timely, accurate and efficient financial reporting through organized PEC procedures and related activities.
  • Ensure accounting operations processes are executed on time and with the highest level of quality. This includes Cash Management & Treasury activities, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Payroll, and General Ledger activities, Period-end Close activities, Internal and External reporting, including Budget to Actual reporting.
  • Process the bi-weekly Payroll and complete related journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Handle interaction with internal tax partners in support of their preparation of the corporate tax returns, state tax inquires, and tax issues.
  • Manage the accounting for benefits, including understanding claims experience and reserving for a self-funded healthcare plan.
  • Assist the Director in charge of Finance with analytical reviews of Balance Sheet and Income Statement.
  • Responsible for maintaining internal management reporting system and updating internal reports as needed.
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining internal controls to ensure proper oversight over business processes.
  • Recommend any amendments to accounting & finance policy, procedures and controls as necessary. Assist in the development and maintenance of standard operating procedures (SOP's).
  • Continually seek new methods to streamline, automate, and simplify the company's accounting processes.
  • Perform ad hoc assignments as designated by management.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • BS in Accounting or Finance
  • Minimum of 5 years accounting experience with a CPA firm or comparable experience in industry
  • Experience with multi-state Payroll processing and compliance filings
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting required
  • Experience with an automated financial and accounting reporting system - Accounting CS is preferred
  • Extensive knowledge of accounting and financial statement preparation
  • Must be detail oriented and have a proven ability to organize, analyze, set priorities, and multitask in a fast paced environment.

Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.

  • Demonstrated success in working in a team environment supporting accounting, business and customer requirements along with a strong commitment to team projects and deadlines.
  • Advanced PC skills using Microsoft Office products and Adobe Acrobat Pro including : Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Access, Teams, and Internet Explorer
