About the Role : The Regional Maintenance Director is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the maintenance operations across multiple bus / paratransit / shuttle services within a designated region.
This role ensures the highest standards of vehicle safety, reliability, and performance while optimizing maintenance costs and adhering to regulatory compliance.
The Regional Maintenance Director will influence a team of maintenance managers and technicians (in a matrixed reporting relationship), fostering a culture of safety, efficiency, continuous improvement and engagement.
Key stakeholders include Regional Senior Management and location General Managers.
Key Responsibilities :
Leadership & Management : Lead and manage the regional maintenance team, including maintenance managers and technicians.
Provide direction, mentorship, and performance feedback.
- KPI Accountability : Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure and improve maintenance efficiency, vehicle reliability, safety compliance, and cost-effectiveness.
- Safety & Compliance : Ensure all maintenance activities comply with safety regulations and company policies. Conduct regular safety audits and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Fleet Management : Oversee the maintenance and repair of the bus fleet, ensuring optimal vehicle availability and performance.
Implement preventive maintenance programs to reduce downtime and extend vehicle lifespan.
Budget Management : Develop and manage the regional maintenance budget, ensuring cost control and financial efficiency.
Identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements.
- Vendor Management : Establish and maintain relationships with external service providers and suppliers. Negotiate contracts and ensure the quality of outsourced maintenance services.
- Training & Development : Implement training programs to enhance the skills and knowledge of the maintenance team. Ensure all team members are up-to-date with the latest maintenance techniques and safety protocols.
- Reporting : Prepare and present regular reports on maintenance performance, KPIs, and budget status to senior management.

Education, Licensing, and Certifications :
Education : High school diploma or equivalent, such as GED, required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Experience :
Field and years of experience required : 7 years or more of progressively responsible experience in repair and maintenance automotive and transit equipment.
Experience managing people, teams and projects. Management of a local-level maintenance team. Knowledge of operational KPIs and P&L components.

Skills and Knowledge Required :
- Expert knowledge in all facets of maintenance for public transportation vehicles.
- Ability to lead change and drive performance and improvement through matrixed reporting relationships (. local Maintenance Managers reporting to local General Manager).
- Working knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint

- Ability to read, interpret and implement documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance manuals, and procedure manuals

Skills and Knowledge Preferred :
Strong working knowledge of JDE and Tango, as well as Hexagon and RTA
