The Quality Manager, Aerospace & Defense is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining standards, methods, and procedures for inspecting, testing, and evaluating the precision, accuracy, and reliability of company products.

Develops budget and monitors expenditures. Makes recommendations for corrective action necessary to ensure conformity with quality specifications.

Ensures finished products conform to customers, government and company standards and satisfy good manufacturing practices regulations.

The Quality Manager is a people leader accountable for leading and managing team performance in support of business objectives.

Essential Responsibilities :

The following essential functions represent the primary work performed; however, other responsibilities could be expected that ARE not detailed here but fall within the scope of this role.

  • Provide hands-on subject matter expertise, oversight and / or work direction for internal teams such as quality, machine operators, and process engineering regarding quality audits, new product introductions, quality processes and other general needs
  • Manage the Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) process, including completing Production Part Approval Process (PPAP's) and final approval of parts produced internally or with external vendors.
  • Manage and or delegate responsibilities to manage : FAI's, Control Plan, ISIR, material / steel certification, PFMEA, flow charts, warrant as required.
  • Support new product development and existing product sustaining activities to ensure work follows proper design control
  • Maintain certification and compliance efforts for AS9100 and ITAR Registration
  • Maintain Metrology & Gage Lab Compliance
  • Analyze and execute completion of APQP, FAIR, customer documents & requirements
  • Drive root cause and corrective action on quality issues and proactively manage trends
  • Work with process engineering to drive continuous improvement to processes
  • Establish, implement, and maintain the quality management system
  • Schedule and maintain internal audits system
  • Coordinate and develop appropriate training materials in areas related to quality
  • Lead and develop direct reports :
  • Maintain active presence within the team, providing daily support and communication to build and foster strong teams and reporting structures across the organization
  • Maintain effective staffing levels and proactively create succession plans, actively participate in recruiting efforts
  • Create and implement standard processes and procedures through the quality team
  • Demonstrate a continuous improvement mindset and empower the quality team in these efforts
  • Establish clear expectations and set goals in alignment with organizational objectives
  • Manage performance and career development to include taking corrective action if necessary
  • Maintain professional competence, knowledge, and skill necessary in your role

Minimum Skills, Abilities, and Requirements :

  • Bachelor's degree in a quality, engineering or relevant field, or the equivalent amount of training and hands-on experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the position
  • 7 years of progressive experience in quality or engineering or other related role with at least 3 years leading, mentoring, and developing direct reports
  • Experience working with ISO 9000, AS9100, commercial and military aerospace quality and engineering specifications.
  • Ability to access ITAR controlled items and / or articles
  • Familiar with gages : dial calipers, micrometers, optical comparators, dial bore gages, and CMM
  • Must be able to read blueprints, comprehend GD&T, calibrate gages, and comprehend customer specifications
  • Proven track record of implementing and executing continuous improvement projects
  • Strong business acumen and ability to think strategically to contribute toward organizational planning
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively present ideas and deliverables to internal and external stakeholders
  • Creative, and results oriented mindset with the ability to collaborate with others to identify and solve issues, make proactive recommendations, and lead through influence
  • Self-directed work style, able to work autonomously, prioritize and deliver results
  • Ability to travel to multiple sites throughout the Twin Cities routinely. Ability to travel to facilities in Racine, Wisconsin if necessary
