Job Description :

We are looking for a results-driven and motivated Safety Manager with experience in the construction industry to join our HR team.

The successful candidate will collaborate with HR and managers to develop an effective safety program, ensure every employee is properly trained in safety related tasks, and build a solid safety culture.

This role requires a proactive approach to safety, a keen understanding of the construction sector, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES :

Promote Safety and Health Program to prevent injuries and illnesses from work related causes, and to minimize losses of material resources and interruptions from accidental occurrences.

It is directed toward the control of all types of hazards encountered in the performance of on-the-job duties.

  • Distribute read and signs, bulletins and posters for location and discuss new procedures with station personnel.
  • Perform safety audits / observations on warehouse and ramp operations and provide feedback to management.
  • Issue employee disciplinary action or employee rewards as preventable measures
  • Hold safety committee meetings and provide feedback to management
  • Ensure all incident / accident / injury reports are performed accurately and distributed to the proper channels by assisting management with investigation and reporting.
  • Ensure all reports are followed up with corrective action to prevent recurrences
  • Work with training department to identify deficiencies in safety and OJT training
  • Report all assigned reports / audits / observations to the director of safety (i.e., assigned weekly / monthly safety reports, all regulatory reports assigned, retention of all required reports as required).
  • Support the coordination and delivery of all site regulatory and operational training.
  • Maintain site training records and all regulatory recordkeeping
  • Participate in all the primary responsibilities and duties of the station safety and training manager.
  • Attend all safety meetings when scheduled.

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Background / experience in cargo warehousing.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Commitment to excellence.
  • Proven work experience as a Safety / Training Manager, incident investigation and root cause analysis.
  • Experience in developing safety training content both for novices and experts with technology
  • Knowledge of web-based incident reporting platforms
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical terms using simple language.
  • Ability to work independently without supervision.
  • Ability to work varied shifts as needed to perform job functions.
  • Ability to interpret and apply corporate guidelines.

The preferred candidate for the Safety Manager will have the following :

  • Five or more years’ experience in Safety Management, Operations Management, Human Resources, or a related field.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills and be able to learn company systems and processes.
  • Adheres to the company’s values and ethical expectations.
  • Able to effectively multitask.
  • Understanding of DOT regulations and compliance.
  • Excellent understanding of OSHA regulations
  • Ability to train in DTEC Systems, Forklift Training, Reasonable Suspicion and any others pertinent to safety.

Key Outcomes :

  • Zero accidents and injuries, Reduce the Total Recordable Injury Frequency Rate (TRIFR)
  • Increase adequate employee safety trainings, including managers
  • Increase in safety observation (safe or unsafe)
  • All Trainings are documented
  • Have a consistent low EMR
  • Build and maintain a positive safety culture where employees are empowered and motivated
  • No equipment breakdowns

Pre-Employment Requirements :

  • Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
  • Subject to pre-employment physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen
  • Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.
