Essential Functions
- Work in a team environment with individual responsibilities for the operation and maintenance of various communications systems and architectures geographically dispersed on eight islands.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on analog and IP communications, video distribution systems, timing suites, and other mission related systems located throughout RTS facilities.
- Utilize a broad range of test equipment in the performance of preventive and corrective maintenance.
- Maintain equipment documentation, drawings, mission logs, forms, and other record keeping.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills
- Technical writing skills sufficient to produce, edit and maintain drawings, diagrams, and manuals in accordance with customer requirements.
- Able to utilize technical documentation to support maintenance actions, configuration changes, and upgrade processes.
- Ability to safely and effectively use various power tools.
- Ability to operate various types of test equipment to include multimeters, and oscilloscopes for basic preventive and corrective maintenance actions.
- Ability to obtain proper voice communication etiquette, practices, and procedures.
Required Experience
- Associate’s Degree, military experience, or technical school in Electronics or a related field, or combination of education and experience.
- Two years’ experience with telecommunications industry, cabling, tech control, satellite communications, range operations or related field.
- Familiarity with network operations, industry standard practices, and various protocols.
- Experience with legacy analog communication equipment desired.
- Experience configuring network attached equipment.
- Installation and maintenance of UPS backup power equipment; experience with AC and DC power distributions systems; experience with any DSL, ISDN, OTN, SONET, or Cisco networking;
experience with telecom codes / standards for ISP or OSP wiring / cabling, installation, and troubleshooting desired.
Technology knowledge of T1, DS0, 4-wire analog, long-haul circuits, interfacing long-haul circuits, or interfacing radios / key-lines;
work experience with Timecode processors, Video Encoders / Decoders, GPS, Voice over IP systems preferred.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance, which requires U.S. Citizenship.
- Must be able to relocate to the United States Army Garrison, Kwajalein Atoll, Marshall Islands.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. passport.
- Able to travel by boat, helicopter, or aircraft to work at remote sites with limited facilities. Must have a waist circumference of 42 or less to ride in helicopters.
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. unassisted.
- The flexibility to work occasional non-duty hours or on weekends to support specific project or mission requirements.
- Willing to work extended hours and occasional overnights and extended stays at remote locations to support mission requirements.
- Valid driver’s License required.
- This position is unaccompanied.
