Schedule : Monday-Friday, 8 : 00 am - 5 : 00 pm
Candidate selected for this position, may be required to float between Alexandria, Herndon and Mount Vernon when needed
Inova Cares for Women is part of Inova's Community Health service line. We pride ourselves in providing prenatal and gynecological care for Northern Virginia's uninsured and low-income community members.
Our patient population is culturally diverse, though predominantly Spanish-speaking. This RN position will provide care across multiple Inova Cares for Women clinics in Fairfax County.
The Lead Outpatient Registered Nurse assists management in the development and implementation of strategic policies and procedures.
Serves as a clinical expert and a team leader for all clinical staff in the Outpatient environment while communicating effectively and working cooperatively with others.
Respects and understands other clinical disciplines while using an integrated approach toward achieving desired patient outcomes.
Ensures improvements in practice settings by assuming responsibility for self-development in lifelong learning and providing direction and guidance to others regarding practice.
Serves as a resource, preceptor and mentor while demonstrating leadership skills in decision making and problem solving.
Job Responsibilities
- Stays current on Outpatient best practices to act as a resource to team members and to provide training to improve team member competency and enhance level of service
- Provides oversight of daily clinical operations, workflow, productivity and training to Outpatient clinical team members and updates management regarding any issues in the Outpatient setting
- Communicates effectively and works cooperatively with healthcare team members, patients and families to maximize patient outcomes and to ensure patients are processed proficiently and expediently
- Tailors and prioritizes caring practice to individual needs including cultural, ethical and spiritual needs
- Delegates patient care activities appropriately to other healthcare team members and participates in making and revising staff assignments
- Integrates education during the delivery of patient care and advocates actively for patients' rights and identifies potential conflicts
- Makes independent clinical decisions based on knowledge drawn from education and experience and adapts standards and guidelines for individual patients
- Evaluates patient outcomes and makes revisions in plans of care. Documents all patient care activities according to documentation standards
- Participates in the planning of routine transitional healthcare needs (i.e. treatment options, patient placement options and end of life options)
- Acts as a clinical resource and serves as a mentor to healthcare team members
- Demonstrates evidence of a minimum of 20 hours of self-development activities with a minimum of six formal contact hours beyond orientation and fellowship programs and maintains own Team Member Continuing Education Record
- Performs essential duties necessary to clinic or non-acute operations to include taking vitals, stocking exam rooms, giving vaccines, drawing blood, etc.
- Provides review of charts to ensure nursing triage protocols are followed
- Participates in quality improvement initiatives and reviews and shares any performance deficiencies with management
- May perform additional duties as assigned
Requirements
Certification - Basic Life Support
Licensure - Licensed Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia
Experience - 3 years of experience in Nursing
Education - Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
