What Your Job Will Be Like :
We seek an experienced engineer to lead the systems engineering (SE) team supporting multi-institutional, large-scale, field-experiments.
These experiments support research aimed at enhancing our nation’s capabilities for monitoring underground nuclear explosions anywhere in the world.
This role will offer opportunities to explore the full systems engineering life-cycle and collaborate with large, multi-disciplinary teams, and over time, take on project leadership and project management roles.
Over time, there may be opportunity to work with cross-disciplinary teams to identify and conceptually develop new technical work within Sandia’s mission areas.
In this role, you will be responsible for increasing the impact and standing of these programs by producing high-quality results and performing work according to Sandia values.
On any given day, you may be called on to :
- Lead a team to successfully meet project performance outcomes, including technical development of experiment requirements, interface documents, and development / execution verification activities.
- Analyze, distill, and communicate salient information to the project team and key partners.
- Develop and manage the resources, schedule, and budget to meet project goals.
- Plan and coordinate with cross-organizational teams of scientists and engineers to negotiate and define system requirements.
- Mentor less experienced systems engineers.
- Represent Sandia within the multi-laboratory leadership team.
- Effectively collaborate with people of different backgrounds and working styles.
- Tailor systems engineering principles to fit the appropriate rigor of the experiment to address the risks and needs.
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite. This position will require moderate travel (25%) for program meetings, conferences, and to perform SE activities on-site.
Qualifications We Require :
- Master’s Degree in relevant STEM degree plus 4 years of relevant technical experience; or a bachelor’s degree in stated fields plus 8 years of relevant technical experience.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance.
Qualifications We Desire :
- Experience (team member or lead) in integrating complex systems or experiments.
- Systems Engineering certification.
- Experience mapping scientific goals to technical requirements.
- Experience integrating requirements designed by multiple domain experts.
- Experience executing off-site field work.
- Experience performing systems engineering activities such as generating system requirements, interface definitions, and / or verification activities.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively both individually and as a team member.
- Experience with requirements management tools, such as DOORS.
- Strong organizational, written, oral, and presentation skills.
- Current clearance (DOE or DOD).
