Position Description : Harvard Medical School invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Global Health and Social Medicine specializing in global mental health implementation research science.

This researcher would apply skills in implementation science within one or more of these themes : the scaling up of psychosocial interventions, the use of digital technologies for assuring quality mental health care, adolescent and youth mental health, and / or addictions.

The incumbent would have significant experience working in low-resource settings internationally and / or in the United States.

The position requires leading independent research, pursuing new global mental health research opportunities available through federal agencies and international funders.

A key area for future strategy is the application of global health innovations to improving access to quality care in the United States.

The incumbent would be expected to teach and mentor medical students, trainees, and field-based colleagues interested in global health, social medicine, and primarily global mental health.

Participation in teaching efforts central to the Department’s educational mission, including within the Master of Medical Sciences in Global Health Delivery Program and courses on Global Mental Health, is expected.

Development of new courses is encouraged. Candidates should have experience mentoring students and / or colleagues based in low-resource contexts and demonstrated ability to build capacity in research methods.

The appointed faculty member will have leadership roles in the Mental Health for All Lab and with Global Mental Health@Harvard , including mentoring of postdocs and staff and serving on the steering committee for the Global Mental Health@Harvard initiative.

Participation in building on established research partnerships and developing new funding opportunities for research and innovation in the field is required.

Basic Qualifications : Doctoral degree in a field relevant to mental health and / or implementation science, e.g., epidemiology, psychology, public health.

Additional Qualifications :

  • Receipt of competitive external research grant funding.
  • Evidence of emerging independence as an investigator through contributions as a lead author of high-quality research publications.
  • A record of contribution to original research in one or more of the priority themes of the initiative.
  • Invited presentations at regional and / or national conferences.
  • Expertise with either quantitative and / or qualitative methodologies.
  • Ability and experience in using digital tools for health care is preferred.
  • Specialization in youth mental health is preferred.
  • A record of high-quality teaching and mentoring.
  • Demonstrated commitment to conducting field work in a low-resource setting.
