Job Summary :
Provides clinical dietetic services by ensuring the diet ordered by physician is received by the patient. Assists in clerical duties for Nutrition Services department.
Has basic knowledge of modified diets, the use of diet therapy resources and the ability to accurately complete modified menus in coordination with dietitian as needed and with use of CBORD computer program.

Education and Work Experience :
- High School Education / GED or equivalent : Preferred
- Associate’s / Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education / related experience : Preferred
- Two years' technical experience : Preferred
Essential Functions :
Provides menus and communicates with patient / family about the room service process including food choices and times of service.
Provides meals and snacks within the diet order, observes and documents food intake and response to care, and serves as a liaison between the patient, Food and Nutrition Department, and Nursing.
Coordinates the preparation of food in accordance to food safety regulations. Accountable to ensure all patients on a physician-prescribed diet receive meals per patient needs / desires.
Works collaboratively with the nursing unit staff to complete activities within scope of practice, and communicates concerning any patient issues, concerns or needs.
Knows various diets with restrictions and serves food accordingly with appropriate condiments. Checks with dietitian for patient food substitution when item is not available or is not on nourishment list.
Consults with dietitian as needed for additional information.
Checks in orders from vendors following established principles and guidelines. Puts stock away in proper location in a timely manner, with proper dating assuring proper food temperature is maintained on refrigerated and frozen foods.
Arranges stock in First-In-First-Out manner. Properly stores any leftover food to assure maintenance of safe food temperature.
Assures foods are covered and labeled and complies with dating procedures.
- Transports patient food carts to and from kitchen. Works collaboratively with the nursing unit staff to complete activities within scope of practice, and communicates concerning any patient.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
