As a Registered Nurse (RN) you will assume responsibility and accountability for :
- Facilitating, communicating, and collaborating with both the healthcare team, and the patient / family to identify and meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the patient.
- Promote the optimal health, well-being and safety of the patient through use of the nursing process and in accordance with patient care standards, guidelines and the State Nurse Practice Act.
- Demonstrate personal accountability for relationship-based care, organizational mission, and core values.
Day to Day duties :
- Recover all cases both Phase I & II.
- Phase I monitor airway, stabilize vitals, ensure pain is decreasing
Preop and PACU for both Surgery and GI Lab.
- Preop and PACU staff are cross trained to work both areas.
- Recovery of both Phase I & II in same area.
- Staff is expected to float between Pre Op / PACUÂ
PACU nurses can take 1-2 patients
- RNs in pre-op / PACU are responsible for pre op calls, PATs, transports in addition to the clinical aspects of pre-op and PACU care. Â
- Unit does see a few recoveries form other departments but is rare
Preop # beds : 12 rooms
PACU # beds : 19 bays (split, 10 North PACU, 9 South PACU)
Cases / day (average) : about 20 surgeries, 10 GI, and 20 Pain Clinic / Day
Schedule : PRN- Variable shifts per surgical Volume adn current unit needs.Â
PRN Policy requires candidates be available for a min of 5 shifts in a six week schedule blockÂ
Call Required : average 6 shifts in 6 week schedule- based on volume and Staff
1 weeknight (Monday- Friday) from 1930-0730 (12Hrs)
2 holidays a year from 0700-0700 (24hrs)

Qualifications :
In addition to bringing humankindness to the workplace each day, qualified nursing candidates will need the following :
Education Requirements
- Associates Degree in Nursing required; Nursing Diploma or by endorsement
- Bachelors Degree in Nursing preferred
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing required for new graduates, preferred for experienced RNs
Experience Requirements
- One year experience preferred
- Nursing skills and knowledge base specific to specialty
Licenses / Certification Requirements
RN License required; Current state nursing licenses or valid RN license from a participating state in the National Licensure Compact
Physical RequirementsÂ
Medium Work - (Exert up to 50lbs force occasionally, and / or up to 20lbs frequently, and / or up to 10lbs constantly)

At St. Anthony North Hospital, one of our proud Magnet designated hospitals, the surgery department consists of 8 ORs and a Cysto room.
Our surgical team services our community by providing excellent patient care in General, ENT, GYN, Urology, Ortho and Spine surgeries.
 The patient mix is comprised mainly of adult surgical patients. We occasionally receive pediatric patients if they are expected to go home after surgery.
This is a desirable department because we have an amazing culture of caring individuals who are fun to work with and will treat you like family.
