We seek a Head of Startup Ops to support multiple incubated companies within our Build Studio. You'll manage workflows, streamline onboarding, and facilitate communication between startups and the studio team.

Ideally, you have been one of the first five hires at successful startups or played a similar role at other venture studios.

This role can be remote.

Your Responsibilities Include

  • Workflow Management : Optimize workflows for leadership teams. Example : Implementing project management tools and processes to streamline daily operations.
  • Onboarding Standardization : Standardize onboarding processes. Example : Developing a comprehensive studio onboarding checklist and schedule for new startups.
  • Strategic Project Management : Drive key strategic projects. Example : Leading a market entry project for a new healthcare startup.
  • Communication : Foster clear communication. Example : Setting up regular asynchronous updates and feedback loops via Slack and other tools.
  • Trust Building : Build strong relationships with executives. Example : Regularly meeting with founders to discuss their challenges and provide strategic advice.
  • Documentation : Create and maintain key documents. Example : Maintaining a living document of strategic priorities and progress for each startup.
  • System Setup : Establish operational, legal, financial, and communication systems. Example : Working with lawyers to setup new-co.
  • Team Oversight : Eventually, you may oversee a team overseeing operations across all incubated companies.
  • Boundary Management : Manage expectations and know how to say no. Example : Prioritizing tasks and delegating appropriately to maintain focus on strategic goals.

Qualifications and Who You Are

  • Experience : 5+ years in management, strategic planning, or a similar role, ideally in a startup or venture capital environment.
  • Experience in both strategic and operational roles is essential. Being one of the first five hires at a successful startup or having played a similar role at other venture studios is highly desirable.
  • Skills : Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills; ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders simultaneously.

  • Systems Thinking : Design and implement systems that optimize operations. Experience with setting up initial ops, legal, financial, and communication systems using the latest tools for startups.
  • Strategic Thinking : Drive strategic projects, make data-driven decisions, and align initiatives with overall goals.
  • Adaptability : Navigate ambiguity, adapt to changing priorities, and manage stress effectively. Constantly innovating and improving processes.
  • Organized and Strategic : Able to juggle multiple priorities while maintaining focus on long-term goals.
