  • JOB TITLE : Multiple Subjects Educator

    EMPLOYER : Youth Progress Association

    REPORTS TO : Education Manager

    SUMMARY : Youth Progress is seeking an experienced educator who is collaborative, innovative, and strategic to join our team as a Multiple Subjects Educator / Advocate.

    The Multiple Subjects Educator / Advocate organizes and implements curriculum and instructional programs. Developing thematic units and individualized skill-building plans are integral to the educational paradigm.

    During non-student contact time, the Educator is responsible for assisting in developing the Common Core Standards-related curriculum, research-based instructional methods, aligning materials and resources to curriculum outcomes, and other teacher leadership responsibilities.

    In addition, they will manage youth in the mornings during school programming and as needed during the week.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

    Education Leadership :

    • Assisting with identifying the curriculum needs of the Youth Progress Learning Center as well as helping to develop an education model to meet the agency's needs.
    • Planning and managing the development of standards-based curriculum, instruction, and strategies, focusing on ELL students and students with IEPs.
    • Assisting in adopting curriculum resources to assist YPLC students in meeting statewide academic standards and essential skills in the subject being taught.
    • Ensuring that all textbooks and other resources are used effectively as a resource to meet curriculum goals.
    • Establishing an advocacy role and relationship with students while working to develop and implement individualized skill-building plans and Master Service Plans.
    • Attend regular formal and informal treatment team / teacher conferences / supervision.
    • Complies with policies, operational procedures, requirements, and special education law.

    Classroom Responsibilities :

    • Apply differentiated instruction techniques.

    • Maximizes the amount of time available for instruction.
    • Recognizes individual and cultural diversity of students.

    Staff Collaboration & Personal Growth Responsibilities :

    • Communicate with colleagues and the treatment team, and proctor parents professionally.
    • Will attend all mandatory training sessions.
    • Participates in ongoing professional growth activities.
    • Will attend other meetings / committees as deemed appropriate by the Education Managers and Executive Director.

    Documentation & Logistical Support :

    • Will be responsible for completing documentation required for compliance with IEP regulations and / or any other education-related documentation.
    • Will be responsible for the Daily Communication Reports, Daily Log Entries, and Incident Reports related to the clients behavior and treatment plan.
    • Will participate in additional meetings, prepare any documentation, and / or assist with any assessments related to ongoing treatment and evaluation as needed.
    • Will maintain the confidentiality of students and their families, as outlined in agency policies.

    Advocacy :

    • Provide leadership for an ongoing peer support group of approximately 5-10 students.
    • Develop and facilitate meaningful activities for daily advocate meetings based on student needs.
    • Maintain regular contact with involved adults from families / agencies. Identify the need for and provide referrals in conjunction with the YA.
    • Provide informal guidance as needed.
    • Participate in the development / review of IEPs for Special Education students.
    • Assist students with academic planning and credit management
    • Assist students with transition / future planning.
    • Identify individual barriers to success; develop and monitor strategies for success.
    • Intentionally address issues of race / culture.

    Other Duties :

    Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES :

    This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

    QUALIFICATIONS : Desired Expertise

    Desired Expertise

    • Bachelors Degree.
    • Oregon State Teaching License.
    • Impeccable integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed with a demonstrated passion for Youth Progress mission and commitment to working collaboratively with a team of professionals.
    • Ability to thrive as a team player and communicate effectively with peers, young people, foster parents, and other associates within a collegial yet demanding work environment.
    • Ability to handle a variety of constituencies, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and thrive in a complex environment with multiple priorities.
    • Proficiency in secondary language

    Required

    • Previous 1-3 years of experience working with at-risk students in a non-traditional setting.
    • Demonstrated success in alternative schools and serving youth with significant barriers to academic success.
    • Commitment to advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion at the individual, organizational, and systems level.
    • Must be results-oriented and have excellent written and oral communication skills.
    • Must have strong analytical skills and be well organized.
    • Demonstrated experience in a team-based work environment.
    • Experience facilitating training.
    • Current drivers license.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT :

    • Full Time / Part-Time : Fulltime, Salaried
    • On-Call : No
    • Hours : Typically 7 : 30a-4 : 30p, M-F Some evenings and weekends as needed.
    • Co-workers : The person in this position will report to our Learning Center Education Manager and work closely with the Learning Center Advocate team and our community of proctor parents to ensure a young person's success.

    Day to day : No two days are exactly alike. There is an excellent opportunity to build upon our current systems and processes to ensure efficiency and effectiveness in the role.
